LOL that's the way - you've got your crosshair mobo there anyhoo, so you're prolly not really worried about the m4a79t deluxe
To count the pins, you find the dot in the corner of the chip and then count anti-clockwise. The first pin closest to the dot is pin # 1, the second #2 etc.HERE
is a link to the L6740L spec sheet.
To locate it on your mobo, it'll be near the row of inductors and your cpu. To be 100% sure you locate the right chip, look at it and it should have ST L6740L printed on it
Good luck and report back any results
EDIT: I just had a thought - you might want to wait for someone to confirm everything, otherwise you could possibly damage whatever CPU and components you put in the "modded" mainboard saince you are playing with it's main voltage regulation chip.
If you go ahead, you'd prolly be better to use an old vid card, an old cpu and a single stick of ram to see if it boots without causing any damage. Then go straight into bios if it makes it past post and see if things look right in the power and cpu info screens.
Then if everything is fine, shutdown, connect a hdd and see if it boots into windows - then check things out again wityh cpu-z and see if vdroop still happens. If vdroop is gone (or much les then before), shutdown again, connect your good vid card, cpu and ram and reboot and do some benches Edited by un-nefer - 12/25/10 at 1:44am
