Ugh... so 82c & 71c at 80% fans... i dont know what to do... because the one card is pretty close to the back of the case and is 12c hotter then the other card, and if i have the fans on auto it hits 90c

Have you tried setting up a custom fan profile in MSi Afterburner? Create one that sets one % of fan speed per 1 degree C. Doing so allows for the fans to ramp up in correlation to your temperature. Keep in mind that stock 580 BIOSes only allow for 85% fans I believe, so you may want max fans to come in @ around 80C. I believe it was EVGA that released a BIOS update that allowed for 30%min/ 100% max fan speeds with 1.2v maximum. Don't take my word though, I don't remember correctly. But that might help your case a bit.

I'm thinking that your case does not have the most spectacular airflow if cards are getting as hot as you are telling us. Perhaps it is time to get some new more powerful fans or reassess the ambient temperature in your room.

My basement is 65*F right now and this to be honest is the hottest it's been in about 2 months.

There is no heat in this room and the only heat in here comes off my Fermi and the boiler/ furnace, not to mention they're in another room in the basement floor of my house.

This is my first rig so I'm curious to see how warm it gets down here in the summer and what I'm going to have to do to combat it. Maybe a portable AC blowing onto my intake fans?

so with the fans on msi Afterburner at 80% which is max, the max temps are 93c & 75c, its because the third card is to close to the back of the case and if i put them side by side one card gets smothered... im stuck on what to do

im only playing sc2, imagine i was playing crysis or metro 2033..

You need more airflow in your case. There's got to be a reason why they're getting so hot.

Ya thats the crappy thing about the rv01 there is no place to put extra fans.. and my new case doesnt come out till end or march or early april... i think im going to but them back to side by side tmw, because i think its worse the way it is now..

i cant wait to put these cards on water then i will no longer have to worry about heat issues.. im almost tempted in taking a card out..

I like to use the software that comes with each individuals card for over clocking and fan settings personally. I've included the EVGA Precision 2.0.2 version fan settings I have that work very well for me.

My cards highest temp when playing Crysis enthusiast AA x4, v-sync On, full inertia, 1280 X 800 resolution never gets above 75C for me using these settings running my single GTX 580. Average Idle is 40C-41C.

As the card starts to go up in temp I like to start ramping up the percentage. Start with windows and minimized options checked and always running on auto.

30C - 30%
40C - 45%
50C - 55%
60C - 68%
70C - 75% should have been at 78% I must have moved it unintentionally.
80C - 88%
90C - 99%
100C - 100%
