Portrait would indeed be interesting but damn you know how much NEC monitors cost I assume since you have them in your sig rig. Plus my NEC 30" is soon to be outdated and buying two more would likely be crazy.
My conclusion is similar to yours. If I find a good deal i'll pick one up if not I'll live with what i've got.

I completely agree with the bolded part, where a lot of it is hype and information is being blown out of proportion. For the majority of people on here, who run single 1050 or 1080p monitors, they will almost never run into issues with 1.5GB cards unless if they tried very hard to create that sort of scenario - and even then, there are very few exceptions. For 1600p users like yourself, you would come close to hitting the VRAM limit for a handful of games, but I think overall you will still be in respectable performance territory.

Unfortunately, a lot of people will see the resolution 2560x1600, or any three monitor setup, and automatically associate it with the need for 3GB cards. There is truth in that the larger the resolution, the more VRAM you would need, but many people are too quick to dismiss the 1.5GB cards when in reality they can certainly hold their own as it really comes down to the actual games that you play.

So I can totally see why CH_Skyline is opting for the 3GB cards, as we share the same basic resolution. His choice of games and mods certainly make use of the extra VRAM. While it is VERY tempting for me to upgrade as well, I feel that everything I am playing now is already running flawlessly so the extra VRAM will just be lost on me and go unnoticed; however, my wallet will feel otherwise. frown.gif

On a side note, my monitors weren't actually all that expensive as I bought mine used. wink.gif But in your situation, yeah, I definitely understand that doing Surround would be a HUGE expense. eek.gif

I don't think we'll see a majority of games requiring 3GB memory at normal settings even @ 2560x1600 for 2 years at least. Only the metro 2033/crysis type games (which isn't that great a game anyways) that turn all the candy on and then some will ever stress that vram. In 2 years there will be a top card 60-80% faster anyways. I do think memory sizes will likely continue to increase slowly on new cards which is a great thing but most games will still be designed for the low-middle part of the market.
It's common in the enthusiast community though I think for people to get whipped up into thinking they need 1200 dollars to spend of video cards. My setup was actually passable on a single 460 but I wanted to add a little bit more eye candy.

I actually did some comparisons for myself of eye candy in metro 2033 and witcher 2 and while it's noticable with tesselation on/off and ubersampling and all that it's truly barely a difference in most cases. And I'm someone who obsesses over lens quality and views his images by actual pixel size (100%).
Sometimes I wonder why enthusiasts never do legitimate tests to see if there IS much of a difference. There was a thread around here where someone asked should they get the 1.5gb 580 or the 3gb 580 for 2560x1600 and not a single person linked to a real review (like http://www.fudzilla.com/reviews/item...phantom-tested). Just anecdotal evidence and talk of theoretical limits.

It's not as bad as people who buy 300 dollar HDMI cables or heck even expensive audio cables but it's similar. But oh well most people just qualify things by artificial numbers with their electronics (37 megapixels must be better than 6!).

Also question!

I have two EVGA GTX 580s, yet with the EVGA precision tool ANY overclocks I do to the cards cause graphical glitches and sometimes complete lockup.

Whats going on?
You forgot to include a screenshot of either the OCN forum with Welcome, Ironwolf visible. Or you can just open up a text file and just put Ironwolf OCN. By the way move that damn CPU-z window!

I think I'm going to do a comparison in witcher 2 and metro 2033 of screenshots of different effects just to show what is actually gained @ different settings.

Im really perturbed with my two EVGA GTX 580s right now.

ANY OCing whatsoever stops 3dmark vantage, locks up my machine sometimes.

Even MINOR OC's bring graphical glitches into games like Crysis 2, Witcher 2 etc etc.

Im using EVGA Precision software, and so far not impressed and pretty angry about spending $1k for these.

Now, yes my newest games run very fast, very beautiful. But this IS Overclock.net so I would LOVE to OC them.

It's possible that it's just one of the cards is keeping the other behind. Try overclocking them one at a time, individually, to see what the maximum overclocks are for each card.

Also, if you have not increased voltage yet, it looks like you're going to have to do that. I am not sure if EVGA Precision does this, but I would suggest switching over to MSI Afterburner in order to increase your GPU voltage. Be prepared to also increase your fan speeds as well.

Best of luck.
