Finally decided to drop in a new PSU and get another 580.

On this board the top card gets VERY toasty. Just during those two runs in the Metro bench GPU1 hit 80*C at 80% fans.

Really don't feel like spending MORE money not to get it to run cooler. :/

Will have some Vantage and 3DMark11 shortly.

For some reason while running Vantage I will get a black screen right after GPU test 1, but I can hear the fans continuously ramping up and slowing down as they do on normal loads.

Is this a symptom of not enough power? Or is there something else I should be looking into?

I just bought this PSU as Phaedrus suggested a 750w be enough for SLI 580s so I took it a step further and picked up the HX-850 at Microcenter.

BTW does anyone know what the return policy is on PSU's and GFX cards? Exchange only if faulty? Or restock fee?

Usually when I black screen in Vantage, its unstable GPU overclock. ..
As far as microcenter, if you take it back.. Its ALWAYS defective.. Make something up if you have to.

Weird thing is that it ran 3DMark 11 just fine. Also the Metro 2033 benchmark. TBH I haven't even played a game on this new setup, just benches so far.

The night is still young though. Just really wanted to find out how these score in Vantage. :/

It always black screens when Jane flies away from the guys on the water scooters in the end of GT1. Yet if I check my GPU usage it shows that there is stress on them while the screen is black. And in my limited experience a failed OC would shut the GPU usage down, correct?

Anywho, here's my 3DMark11 score.

Sounds like what was happening to me in Crysis 2. Try giving them a little more voltage with afterburner. I would guess it's not a power supply issue, as the rest of your rig seems to be running correct? I've had power supply crashes with sli before. It was always a total shut down. GL!

Edit: They may just be pushing harder than they were factory tested. Thus they need more voltage to be stable. Go up one bit at a time though to be safe. That's what I believe the deal was with mine.

To be honest, I haven't been able to even complete 3DMark 11 reliably at all. Ever since the 270 family of drivers have become available, the last test always hangs for me and even goes to a black screen that requires me to end the task, regardless if I run at completely stock settings or running rock solid overclocks (validated by everything else). That's why I don't put much stock in running any of Futuremark's benchmarks.

Since it is a brand new unit, if the PSU wasn't able to keep up, your computer would either fully reboot or shut itself off. It's possible, but highly unlikely that your PSU would cause the black screens though. So you should be good to go with your current setup.

As far as MC's return policies, they state them on the back of the receipts. From what I remember, it's usually big ticket items like TV's, laptops, desktop computers, etc. that have specific return limitations. Everything else fits under the 30 day, full refund umbrella. Afterwards, your video card and PSU, if returned, would just be resold as those open box items you see floating around the rear shelves.

I've ran a few other benchmarks with the same voltage that worked which was 1.075v and they worked fine. I tried Vantage with 1.088v, still black screened. If Vantage requires 1.1v I'm not even going to bother.

It could be a problem with vantage, Tried reinstalling it?
In my experience Vantage is much tougher to run than 3dmark 11 or Metro. Vantage will fail for me at clocks that are rock-stable for all of my other benches (except maybe Heaven). Anyway, I can pass Vantage at 930MHz but anything higher crashes my system. I can pass Metro at 950MHz...
