I love having added my back plate.

Attachment 226275

I bought my card January 15th, to be exact and it didn't come with the high flow bracket, so I installed it myself. I belive they come standard now. Helps dissipate the hot air exhaust out the rear easier, brought down my temp a whole 1C-2C.

The only difference is choose 3Gb version for multiple monitors and 1.5Gb for single monitor is plenty.
Games like Crysis2, Shogun2, Metro2033 etc. tend to disagree with you

from evga forum: Crysis2 @1920x1200

VRAM usage is through the roof and in these cases and I'll think we'll see some more titles hit the market before the 680 launches that will push mem usage past 1.5 GB even on single FullHD displays.

If the 10% higher cost of the 3GB cards give me 10% more performance at my resolution in these games, I'm all for it since I'm not expecting games to use LESS memory in the near future.

That's strange Neilz because on my 1.5GB VRAM I don't pass 1GB of memory needed to play Crysis 2 max settings. Will run a test tonight and post back with results. I don't have time right now. I see your GPU has 2GB VRAM so I wonder what the discrepancy is.

Not my pics, but from a thread over at EVGA:http://www.evga.com/forums/tm.aspx?m=1093015&mpage=1

the 6950 in my system is now a 580 Lightning btw.

Ok after 30mins of Crysis 2 my memory used was 1409MB with the new DX11 High res pack maxed settings.

FPS was 85FPS AVG.

That last upgrade to DX11 changed memory used by quite a bit. I was surprised the difference from DX10.

One thing I didn't suffer from was loss of FPS even though it was only usiing 1409Mb VRAM. So what's the reason though I didn't use up as much as somone with more VRAM I didn't suffer FPS loss? Is system RAM picking up the slack? CPU?

More distubringling was my temp got to 95C and my max fan settings only 59% when I have it on the manual fan settings and by 80C it should be at 99% fan. Wonder if the reading was wrong? I have the EVGA FAN BIOS UNlock and it should have been higher fan max percent.

I've got bigger fish to fry right now while I figure out the fan situation.

It's also terrible coding on the Crytek front, the tesselate the beejezus out of some random objects and more troublesome they have tesselated water active in most scenes, even though there's no water in the vicinity at all.

Ok - I just discovered something is wrong with my fan speed. Here is my manual fan settings.

40C - 55%
50C - 66%
60C - 77%
70C - 88%
80C - 99%
90C - 100%

I idle at a constact 59% fan speed no matter what temps I reach. When I game it's very sporatic but it will ramp up to 100% when I hit about 95C for 3 seconds and then back down to 59%.

I've tried it on EVGA Precison software and MSI Afterburner software and both are exactly alike.

I have the EVGA Fan Speed Unlocker that enables fan speeds to reach 100%. I've even re-installed it after noticing this problem but it dosen't help.

I've got the latest Precision and Afterburner software and latest Nvidia driver 280.26.

Anyone ever encounter this problem? ithout proper fan speeds I hit 95C temp in Crysis 2 and prior to this with my manual fan settings I've never gone above 80C. Anyone know what might be happening?

If you're using the 280 family of drivers, downgrade to something older to test and see if things are different.

Whoops never mind - thanks for the idea anyway. Just noticed I must have clicked the fan speed to auto - DOH. It was saved as profile. Just updated it and it's working now with current everything.

Sorry for even having posted before re-checking. Now highest temp was 76C.
