To each his own.

Don't get me wrong, EVGA still has its place, but Zotac is really making a strong showing. With the $400 I'm paying after rebate for the reference-based Zotac (a full $60-$100 less than a brand new EVGA vanilla card, depending on where you shop), for being my third GTX 580, I was looking forward to something a little different.

Right up front, the packaging (as insignificant as it may be) made a good impression on me, as I look at it from a reselling standpoint: the sturdier Zotac box will be easier to package and ship, compared to the flimsy boxes that EVGA uses. Personally, I know I don't like to receive products with mangled boxes from other forum members, as it "cheapens" the selling experience. Therefore, I do everything in my power to extend that courtesy to the people I sell my own items to.

Zotac also offers a Lifetime warranty as well, provided the user registers their card within 30 days of the purchase date - same as EVGA. Hopefully I don't have to find out for myself, but going by wermad's word, they seem to be pretty good on their warranty support, which is definitely good to know.

Regarding the 3DMark 11 key, sadly EVGA only gives one key per registered account, regardless of however many cards you own. The game Zotac threw in (Prince of Persia: Forgotten Sands) was a welcome addition that I wasn't even aware was part of the package. Sadly, I already own a copy of it, but for those that don't you actually get the DVD and a unique key, as opposed to a coupon code. Whether if someone wants to sell it to recoup some money or not, is an open choice that is not even offered with EVGA.

Call me old school, but I remember back in the day that aside from warranty/customer support, packaged accessories used to be a deciding factor when spending big bucks on a graphics card. When you bought a high end card (back when they cost anywhere from $200-$300), they used to come bundled with *several* games. Even as recent as the GTX 480 series, EVGA at least offered Mafia 2 as a freebie, which makes it kind of disheartening to see their 570/580's offered with nothing this generation, except one copy of 3DMark 11.

From where I stand, the capped fan speed is the only tiny drawback for Zotac, but that can be remedied with a quick BIOS flash if desired. In the end, this card will have a backplate and waterblock slapped on anyway, same as the other two EVGA cards, so the fan speed is a moot point for me when all is said and done. If anything, it is more of an incessant reminder to quickly buy the rest of my watercooling parts and finally finish my project!

After this experience, come time for Kepler, Zotac will be amongst the few on my short list of manufacturers to buy from. In any case, I'll get off my soap box now.

You could sell them, trade them, use them as stocking stuffers, install on other machines, and probably much more.

I used to throw in games as freebies with my sales items during the holidays. Nowadays I can't do that anymore since all my game purchases are digital, and I don't get anything for free like that anymore with my GPU's, lol.

Why is your card 580 running in x8 mode? It should be in full x16 mode since you've only got one card. Double check and make sure it's plugged into the first PCIE slot.

Yeha i know,it's because of space,i don't want the card so near the CPU Heatsink.

At 8x,the card performs equally than 16x. so 16x is not that necessary

My 3dmark 11 benchmark result:

If that's at stock (as it looks like) you're getting lower scores than average, I think.

A single 580 gtx DCII I had (mildly factory overclocked to 782 core) used to hit 8026 on the graphics score at its stock, if I am remembering correctly.

Come one, man!
Put that baby on the right slot!
It is not that sensitive that it can't handle some heat from your cpu hs
