If it helps at all my two 560 non ti's get a score just a hair under P7000, and I have an phen x4 clocked at 4.0. And I'm only 1 of 2 with similar systems to get around the 7 grand mark. And thats the "P" score right? Not the "E" or "X"?

Sorry to re-post but the 560's graphics score alone is ~8400, the one up there is the whole 3dmark11 scrore.

Hey guys, I would like to know what is the "BEST" GTX 580 in term of overclock and stock cooler??? Price does not matter... well as long as it does not go over $600 just for the card alone.

It's going to be for Folding/gaming.

;... i like the Asus GeForce GTX 580 MATRIX for it's looks but the 1.5 vram worries me, as I will go multi-monitor in the future and like to play with graphic mod's for my games.

;... I like the EVGA GeForce GTX 580 Classified Ultra for the overclock and the 3gig of ram, but unsure of the cooler and how loud it would be.

;... I like the MSI GeForce GTX 580 Lightning Xtreme Edition for the cooler as I have/had twin frozr coolers before. The 3 gig of vram is also a plus.

;... I like the GIGABYTE GeForce GTX 580 Windforce 3gig for the 3 fans and vram but more fans are not always better so I'm not sure how good it is, plus I hate the PCB color and just the over-all look of it.

any help would be appreciated.

I've never used the lightning, but personally i'm an msi guy. and its named lightning, how can you go wrong? thumb.gif No but seriously I've heard nothing but good about the first three, the giga I'm not too sure but I would definitely aim for one with 3 gigs of vram. Especially if your gonna spend that kinda cash.

Ok guys, got a question where Im sure I got the answer but would like it to be validated in hearing from someone else's point of views.

I got one GTX 580 1.5GB on a single 1920x1200 res monitor.

I'm tossed between selling it for a new 28nm GPU and settle for more perfomance than my current single card. It's a single GPU solution for an upgrade in perfomance.

Other option is to SLI it for even more performance but comes with possible SLI issues. Heat, drivers, and possible micro-stutter. I'm forced to sandwich these cards with absolutely no space due to mid-tower mobo config.

Pricing for the 580's have not gone down so it's not even a no brainer.

On one hand two 580's at 900Mhz clock will give me a 12000 3DMark 11 score and on the other the new single 28nm has proven 9100 3DMark 11 score and I'm predicting the new x80 from Nvidia will meet same level.

What to do? SLI or go next gen single card solution?

If I had space and not sandwiched this would be easier choice. I'm expecting the top to be a hot card suffocating for air. So much so it may even hold me back from decent over clocks.

Well my opinion is the EVGA GTX 580 3GB Classified Ultra. Gigabyte has a cooler fan but let's not forget this Classified Ultra has a 14" fan larger than your normal closed shroud casing.

14+3 phase PWM's which clocks to 1000Mhz Core at stock voltage. Super Low ESR SP-Cap capacitors (Polymer Aluminum Capacitors), with high frequency 3MHz shielded inductors that provide clean precise voltage control. On board voltage probe points you can monitor them. Fully supported for the EVGA EVBot that you can overclock and monitor your card on the fly, and to top if off an OC BIOS enables extreme overclocking mode.

This card is built for ground up for guys who put it under extreme over clocks EVGA GTX 580 Classified Ultra on sale right now for $549 on Newegg.

I love the Lightnings and their performance cannot be denied in any class of cards they offer, but this card competes on a pro level.

I really appreciate the help guys.

I actually was going to get a 7970 but then I remember that I wanted to Fold for OCN and AMD's GPU is just not worth it for Folding, at-lease in it's current state.

This is actually going to be one of my birthday present to my self, as my birthday will be on Jan. 25.

I have to agree that the better built card is the Classy Ultra as Arizonian pointed out, they went above and beyond to put out the best card.

And the cooling is a bit different than the stock ones, but its still the same style of single fan. While its nice to have it exhaust out the back of the case rather than inside like the dual fan coolers do, I have to imagine it can be a bit noisy. If your only gaming its probably not bad being you only have to turn up the fanspeed when gaming, but for folding you would have it like that for long periods.

And while the evga will do 1000+ on the core, most of the other cards in that class will get pretty close to that as well.

Hey, I was wondering what kind of clocks you guys were getting with your EVGA 580 Superclocked editions. I have mine now at 900mhz and I'm wondering if I should push further.

I'm over clocked 16% on Core/Shader myself and 5% on memory. As I've found OC to memory dosent yield much FPS performance more than it brings higher temps and limits Core/Shader over clock. 900 / 1800 / 2075 is my 24/7 OC with no voltage bump. My stock voltage is 1.0880mV.

It's where I feel most comfortable without applying voltage. I will create a game profile eventually with a voltage bump and higher OC. I've yet to have any issues though gaming and don't have a need to.

My top OC was @ 950 / 1900 with 1.1250mV. I wouldn't go any higher on voltage though ecause any more crosses the border line for max limits.

You should have downloaded the EVGA firmware BIOS update from EVGA forum under Graphics/500 Series section.

Your doing great with your OC. Hope that helps. Enjoy. thumb.gif
