I really should of got a 560Ti. But is it worth it to pay $100 more for 10 more fps? :/

(560ti's in NZ are around $400, 560's are $280 NZD)

I don't get it. And going back to the 285.xx family will kill my SLI capabilities in Skyrim, and that's no bueno.
Does anyone know the fix? I haven't tried the latest WHQLs for the 500 series but I'm skeptical of Nvidia drivers as of late, will they be any better? Will they allow me to bench my beasts?

I ran the 285 drivers for the longest time after my most recent format around December. That was rock solid stable for me.

A couple of weeks ago, I decided to "upgrade" to the 296 drivers to see what the improvements in BF3 were. I noticed little to no difference, but it killed my Surround Portrait gaming. Pretty much most DX9 games crash on startup! eek.gif Landscape mode works fine though, so go figure.

I "downgraded" my Surround setup to a single 1440p Korean monitor, thinking the problem was something on my end, and I didn't want to deal with the hassle of trying to troubleshoot Surround issues anymore. Come to find that I am not alone in this:

Currently, I'm back in Surround Landscape mode with the new drivers (296.10), but it definitely is not as solid as the 285 series. There are some weird texture flickering going on in BF3 for me with these that weren't there before.

With Nvidia drivers, I have come to learn that the best thing to do is stick with the most stable drivers that you have until something game-breaking absolutely *NEEDS* to be fixed with a newer version. tongue.gif

Nope you definitely weren't the only one. I had the same thing. I could use the 290.53 drivers though in surround they worked fine. One thing in BF3 I noticed with the 290.53 drivers with a single monitor was that when you died it would flash out of the game and back in. Really weird. With the 296.1 drivers this issue was gone.

I'm done with surround as well. Just too much hassle trying to get things to work in all games.

Side note: One reason to upgrade to newer drivers regardless of whether you're stable or not would be better performance. Generally a new driver release will bring increased performance.

well guys one thing I'm going to tell is * we are not alone * on this major 290`s drives crashing , i had and still have the same issue on my sig RiG, in the past few weeks i was happy with the 290`s drivers but its in the last four days i having been trying to fix some issue not having SLI option in my NVidia Control panel and having BF3 crashing almost every time i started the game so, i have been using my windows for about year and half without no issue but last night i decide to re-install everything because i thought it was my windows had going bad but i was wrong so after digging the internet and here and there i just found out that it come from NVidia 290`s drives so * all the hard work for nothing-installing and re-downloading on everything again. so i`m going back to 285.62 now my download its about to done by now and let`s see how its go now. i will post back ASAP. I almost forgot to mention i had found out about HyperSLI the fix for none SLI option in NVidia Control Panel it added a second boot option in my windows boot load *hope it not ****3rup my new OS installation.
