Best Cooler for my Phenom II x4 40 CPU??

Thread Starter
I have a cooler master Hyper TX3 atm, but want something better. I will be trying to fit it into a Antec 300 case. I'm looking to push mt Phenom II x4 40 ( unlocked Phenom II x3 740 ) as hard as I can without frying it. I'm @ 3.6ghz now, want 4.0 Ghz

FYI, I could never get my unlocked PhenomIIx4 720 above 3.7 no matter what I did. It just didn't want to, OTOH that was with a 790GX chipset.

What the voltage for 3.6?

Currently I'm @ 3.6ghz with 1.45v in bios, 1.465 in CPUz while stressing ( the Asrock Mobo likes to overvolt under load ) with cpu temps around 52c in a 67 degree F room. Come summer my Cpu would cook with my current cooler.

All of them are nice. I guess you might need to tell us your budget and then we can suggest you some wise choices.

Well TBH, you're just about at the limit for air anyway. A new cooler won't necessarily let you get a better overclock since you will have to up the voltage quite a bit to hit 4.0, and since you're already at 1.45v, I'd say there isn't much headroom to justify spending $60 for 100-200 more mhz. But that's just me. I'd try a more powerful fan and a nice lap job first.

HHHHHmmmm, well it is going to be an X-Mas gift from my GF for me. I guess the budget would be around $100 US. Also, if I can not hit 4 Ghz on this chip I might save up for a Phenom II x4 970 but would want to re-use whatever cooler she gets for me

NH-D14 or Thermalright Silver Arrow. Quiet and effective.
