Quality/Cost of Optical Drive Make A Difference [For Ripping]?

Thread Starter
I seem to especially be running into issues with backing up a few movies I have laying around the home. For some reason, my current Samsung SH183L optical drive refuses to rip some videos, while other drives in my laptops work just fine.

I would much prefer not having to try 3 different computers and 4 different drives each time though.

Any advice on a superb drive that can take care of anything I throw at it?

I am not so sure that the drive itself could be the problem, sounds like a software issue. Then again, if the drive is old (firmware), then it might have some problem reading some disks. However, the disks that fail to rip, can they be played back normally? If so, then it most certainly must be software-related, or copy protection
