Problems with Stock Settings but not OC

hey all

having a strange problems with my I7 920

Its kind of a long story but ill try to keep it simple..

Played with Oc for the first time ever. Clocked my cpu from Stock settings at 2.6Ghz running X.M.P profile to 3.2Ghz with manual set 1600Mhz memory.

Ran OCCT Linpack to see what temperatures i would hit. Was hitting 62'C on the hottest core an thougth it was a little high considering im running WC, so i was recommended to try an reseat my block. i figured as i need to reseat the block i might as well change water in the loop.. after reseat / refill i tried to boot.. an the computer shut down, my guess would be from TERMTEMP, stupid as i was i didn't take notice of this the first time, figuring it was the board messing with me, so it ended up shutting down on me 3 times, befor i had tightend my block, and layed the computer down, which caused an airloop to dispatch from the block..

Scared on the termtemp shutdown and the damage it might have caused to the cpu i decided to go back to Stock settings with X.M.P enabled and run OCCT Linpack. and it keeps finding an Error, sometimes 22min in, sometimes 45min it changes a little..

now the strange thing is, i just changed back to the OC settings an ran a OCCT Linpack for 2 hours without an error. (have run it for 8 hours befor i reseated the block, so hopefully ill get the same result now)

Can someone explaine why i get en Error on stock settings now ? but not on the OC settings ?, (ran the OCCT normal test once, just to see if i could get it the pass there when the linpack test was failing and i said error on core #3)

Befor i started to OC, i ran a OCCT Linpack test for 36min just to have a temperature comparison for when i started to overclock, so it is possible that it has alwaysed produced errors on stock with X.M.P an i was just lucky to run it for the first time for 36min without it producing errors.

Comparing my Manual Overclock Voltage settings, i am actually running slightly lower Vcore, QPI and DRAM settings that what the motherboard would set Auto for my Stock with X.M.P

Thanks,
And sorry for the long poste

maybe because you're memory is at a funky setting when you don't load up the profile. like its running at stock 1.5V or something. linpacks aren't just testing your CPU, it tests your CPU and Memory... I like LinX more for linpacks, or IBT, rather than OCCT.

X.M.P profile changes DRam volt to 1.65 and QPI to 1.4
Manual settings is DRAM 1.6 and QPI 1.275

Kingston sais ram needs 1.65 but mine is running fine at 1.6 with correct timings..

What are the odds that i actually damaged the cpu ?
