is this 950 stable enough?

Thread Starter
So I've did some stability tests with the following settings:

175x23, 1.29v 4.02Ghz

Prime95 passed 6 hours with 1.28v. IBT failed after 30some runs so I bumped it up to 1.29v and IBT passed 100 runs on very high. 100 runs is ~6 hours I think. Temps never reached 80 in any of the runs ever. Anyways, I doubt a CPU will run at 100% for 6 hours straight in any usage but should I run anything else or just call it a day?

looks good to me, man. thats a nice overclock. if you really want to stress test your overclock, nothing will test your stability more than folding@home. i can get my 1090 prime stable at 4.3, but i have to back it off to run f@h. (its a good stress tester, its for a good cause, and i7's really shine on bigadv units)

prime95 is a better stress tester

you dont want to do folding@home until you know its stable/reliable
turning in corrupt data wouldnt help anyone

this. sound like you are stable though. my i always run 16 hours of blend just to be sure. if you have good temps you can let it run while you are sleeping or at work.

if the clock is too unstable, f@h will shut down the core and fail the wu. if the system freezes to the point that f@h cannot fail the unit, even if the wu resumes on restart, it will resume from the last checkpoint, since the corrupted data wasn't saved.

from folding.stanford.edu faq:

What is simulation instability?

The simulation of molecular motion involves a great deal of computation. Each run consists of a number of time steps (each very small). At each time step, the position of the various atoms is calculated and updated, based on a number of factors. Sometimes, the simulation enters into a state that is not legal (i.e. atoms are too close, bonds are in impossible angles, etc.). At times like this, the Core exits, and information is uploaded to the server. The client will then get another assignment. If your computer is stable, then you haven't done anything wrong. On unstable computers, it is possible that the simulation instability was brought on by a fault of the system rather than something intrinsic to the work unit. Because of this, a work unit may be sent out again at some time if it is returned as having run into instability. In a given project, we expect a small percentage of units to encounter legitimate instability.

You want to use the MAX setting on IBT. If you aren't using the latest version it will only set your cpu to 4 threads, and you have to manually set it to 8 threads.

Your stable! Those clocks look awfully suspicious of recent Microcenter i7 950s.

This 950 is indeed from MC.

I've ran IBT on very high with 8 threads and it passed 100 runs without temps ever reaching 80. Prime95 was run on blended as well when I did the 6 hour run. So it should be good, right?

IBT and Prime for 6 hours is stable in my book. You get all kinds of people telling you that OCCT, Intel Burn Test, LinX, ect for 24 hours is required.

After a certain point, it's what puts you mind at ease. Again knuckle heads out there will tell you to stress test for 3 days before they put their stamp of approval on it.

It's you that should make that judgement. For me, 3 hours Prime95 minimum and some Memetest86 for the sticks.
