Best 2 x 2GB? - Page 2

Get CPU-Z, run it, and in the area where the processor info is, look at the stepping. If it's 3 then you're good to go, if it's 2 then I wouldn't recommend any RAM that goes at 1600MHz@6-8-6-24 - ANY. Your system will not be able to run it, more than likely.

TheRockMonsi is talking about C3 vs. C2 revision processor; C3 revision processors have an improved integrated memory controller. C2 revision processors have historically had trouble with 1600Mhz (especially with 4 DIMM's, it's near-impossible to stabilize).

the stepping on my 1090t is "0". what is that meaning?

You probably mean E0; Phenom II x6 are newer and use a different die design, so they are the "E0" revision. Some Phenom II x4 are E0 revision (marketed as 840T, 960T) but haven't been released to the retail market yet.

Ohh, well I don't have the i7-950 yet, I intend to buy it with everything else including RAM.. Is there another way to check if i7-950 will be compatible with 1600MHz@6-8-6-24 ??
The i7 950 will be able to run 1600Mhz 6-8-6-24 if you don't need above 1.65v for that, however you might not see as much difference with Intel and low timings.

It's straight 1.65v so do you think i'll be fine even if I tend to overclock?
You should if you don't pass ~1.65V
