Traveling via train.

Wasn't sure where to post this. Sorry if it's in the wrong spot.

Anyone traveled with a desktop and monitor or a train? They say a two bag limit on the Amtrak's website measuring 28x22x14 and under 50lbs. Anyone think they would have a problem with me taking my computer on with me?

It sounds absolutely insane but last time I moved, I packed my desktop into a suitcase and put it in checked baggage on a 8 hour flight from Texas to BC. Rig survived just fine and is still running to this day.

Given that you handle your own baggage while travelling via rail, I'm sure you'll be fine.

Can't speak to Amtrak's baggage policy however...

Kudos on the insane transport. I think I'm gonna give it a shot and see what happens. Might give the a call first.

I would put it in some sort of suitcase or whatever with a bit of padding so it doesn't get scratched to hell, and also so it's not really obvious you have something valuable.

As long as it's within those dimensions, there won't be a problem.

I'm not worried about scratches. But good point on concealing it's possible value. If I had a suit case that it would fit I would. I think my plan is to just stay up the whole 3 hour ride and guard it with my life. Oh and something I just discovered. My mouse pad fits behind the mobo tray and back panel. It gets to come with me.

You could just throw a garbage bag or something over it too. How are you transporting the monitor? I've always thought it would be a good idea attaching it to the case screen side in to protect the screen, then having the stand separate.

I thought about the too. I think some duct tape and a towel will do the trick though. My case has custom made handle on the top so I can one arm that. And the monitor has a "handle" in the stand. It's really hole that I use as a handle.

Well it's on then. I challenge you guys and your baggage and I will go bareback with just a towel and duct tape. I will post pics of my adventure when I arrive.
