GPU heatsinks are often a really bad fit. I have seen several come from the manufacturer with great big globs of TIM on them. A thin layer is normally what you strive for but sometimes the fit is so bad the factory just globs it on. The only cure is to completely disassemble and hone the fit between components (lapping) and that is a job for sure...

Have you seen a prolimatech product before? The surface comes polished.. i also just stated that i reapplied the tim with as5. Lapping may be an idea but im not sure if the temp drops would be that significant.

Thanks for your advice however. ill have another look at things when i get home from uni smile.gif
post #1793 of 2146
No I have never had a Prolimatech product. :thumb:Usually only 3 to 4 degree drop from lapping. Good luck...

So the biggest question is why does my temperature increase so drastically with just a small voltage increase?

I've tested 880 core 1075mV --> 97 degrees+ in Kombuster

however at 800 core 1000mV --> 65 degrees (stable) in Kombuster

So what factors could influence something like this?

What is ambient temp and what fan speed are you on? Also which evga 570 are you running?

I'm pretty sure my card hit a wall, after 970 I can't get ANYTHING to run at any voltage, even 1.130 :/

can you post some pic's from you setup with outside case and inside, because those temps you have its not normal something is very wrong

Here are some photos. You can see that DVI box i had to hack up to fit this cooler on hehe.

Nothing looks out of the ordinary to me... do i have enough TIM applied? And maybe is there insufficient cooling on my VRMS? As they dont have any heatsinks on them, but were attached to a heatsink with the stock cooler as can be seen by the little green pads on them.
So i put all new heatsinks on, plus putting some on my VRM's (stupid mistake not putting them on before). Reapplied TIM and also cleaned all the IC's with a rubber and gave them a blast of compressed air.

now im running a bit more stable. The card is still not liking anything higher than 1.05v, because temps still continue to rise too high. But temps are definetly more reasonable in the lower voltage range. @ 850-890 on the core it maxes out around mid 80 or so.

Ill do some more testing and the new TIM needs to cure as well.

What do you guys think? smile.gif

I'm thinking modding tech that isn't meant to fit together is ***** annoying lol.

EDIT: Yeah the results are almost the same as before... Only other logical explanation i could think of could be the fans im running on the HS are only 1800rpm, which is very quiet (and alot less CFM) in comparison to the stock cooler.

by looking it its should cool down you card very easy, but something still not right, have you used too much TIM ? if yes, maybe its can cause the temp to be so high, do something if you can, if you have any computer store around you, like Microcenter or Fryes , go get a new cpu cooler with fan's for your card and install it and see what happen. if the temps still the same you have a bad card if not is you cooling setup, i dont like to recomend this for other but you still going to have 30 days to return it if not work out for you. and please do a favor for you DOT NOT OC THIS CARD till you find out whats wrong.
