Laptop cut off suddenly and won't turn back on.

Last night my girl was playing WoW on her laptop when it just suddenly shut off. No delay, just *blink black screen laptop is off.

Now it will not turn on with just the battery, or with just the power cord hooked in. It will also not turn on with the battery and the power cord hooked in.

One thing to note that is interesting to me...

The power supply when plugged into the wall will show the green light as if it's working ok. The split second you then plug the cord into the laptop though the green light flicks off.

Is it possible the cord is just shorted or the connector on the laptop itself is screwed? If that is all it is I don't understand why it won't turn on with just the battery though.

Any help would be appreciated!

this worked for me:

remove the battery and power cord, remove power supply, hold power button down for 30 seconds, put power supply back in (no battery yet), connect power cord, turn laptop on, put the battery back in.

this helps drain the capacitors, if i'm not mistaken. let me know whether this works and i'll go back to the drawing board lol

also, if you have a multimeter check the leads of the battery and power cable to see if they are faulty. If the voltage is lower than specified, then you know your problem!

It was an Asus g50VT from Best Buy. And yes I believe it did have the Geforce 8 series in it. Actually I think it had the 9 series.

I've had a similar, (but not exact) thing happen to my laptop. Try to drain capacitors and replace the charger /battery. If that doesn't help, something's wrong..
