Homeworld, a game from 1999 uses 4 cores like a champ! What? - Page 4

Homeworld was very advanced for its age (like the metro and crysis of the day)
that and a lot of old top notch gaming pc's had 2 PIII or PII in them back in the day
like the old quantum3d systems

I know the game maxes out on my 3dfx pc @ high FPS
even Homeworld2 does

Though it can crawl to 30-40 FPS with 200+ units on screen.

This game is still hungry for CPU power.
software rendering?

EDIT: sum old game are know to waste cpu power and get low FPS on new systems
and not use your gpu for rendering, instead it will use your cpu. because the game is not coded for newer gpu's
the reason for this, is that sum old games are so deepened on old hardware and software that they are optimized for and they cant run right on new systems 100% right
I know RE2 does this

it's like ps2 games running on a ps3 or xbox games running on a xbox360

it's best to have a old pc for old games

I remember seeing someone play this game once, it looked pretty cool.

And that's just impressive.... You must get epic performance.

Love it. ALthough the cataclysm expo was great in its 1st person ship view.

worst thing about it and the 2nd one: limited food count. I want more battlecruisers.

They need to bring Homeworld back. As the OP said, it's one of my favorite games of all time; I haven't found a decent competitor that packs such great mechanics into a simplistic form. Errbody seems to want to incorporate unnecessary amounts of features that bloat the game.

Lol, this game was sent from the future to own PC gaming back in the day

Two awesome games from then would have to be Homeworld 2 and Ground Control 2.

Still have them, and gonna install HW2 to see if it does use more threads

Thanks for the memories everyone

You can always trim down the OS by using 7lite.
http://www.overclock.net/benchmarkin...-benching.html

Just keep the things you need.
That would mean re-installing Windows, which I really can't be bothered to do at the moment

That's quite interesting, as someone pointed out, it's likely isn't using your gpu, mostly cpu which adds to the load but still pretty impressive for such an old game

I did that the same day that this thread started, but before seeing the thread.

Problem is, I don't know which services to turn off.
