but test with phyx on the gpu are invalid and will not show on the public record boards or anything so your point is lame

Keep the 5970, unless you REALLY hate the crossfire dual chip problems or the drivers. Then go with the 580. It is a single chip that for all intensive purposes is as fast as the 5970.

Not really. The 5970 is quite a bit faster.

i disagree. the 5970 is faster than a 580, but not night and day faster. depending on the game, only slightly faster or the same.

I went through this same decision recently and after considering everything, I went with the 580. Sure it is more expensive, but that is really the only downside to it, unless your going to be using eyefinity. The 6970 is louder, slower, and pretty hot when compared to the 5870. Not to mention you get all the little extra's that nvidia has like physx and better driver support. Ati drivers aren't bad at all, but to be honest i'm not brave enough to try out a crossfire ati setup.

Well i really dont see whats the big deal with the benchmarks. i mean, ok, so one card may score a little higher in one benchmark that another. so what! all that really matters is how the card performs in your system playing the game that you want to play. i would say the 6970 because of price. cards get outdated and replaced too quickly to spend too much.

Seeing that the 6970 2GB is faster than the 580 in various benchmarks, and is $140 cheaper to boot, I'd say 6970 is the correct choice.
