I think they're pretty even, and that's from someone that's decided to go for the 6970. The reasons I chose the 6970 is that I want to keep the option of 3 screens, I expect one day to get another (and the new AMDs scale a little better than nvidia, which is a turn around), it uses a little less power (I don't have much spare with my PSU), and out of the two, the 6970 has the best chance of improving from new drivers (I don't expect it to improve much, but it is more different to the 5xxx series than the 570 is to the 4xx series). But the 570 is still an excellent card, there's little in it.
