What should I upgrade in my current system? ( been away for awhile so bare with me) - Page 2

Overall the system isnt that bad. E8400s can role with low end C2Q chips so if you are going to get a quad it needs to be a Q9xxx or just get an i3/5/7. Memory I wouldnt both upgrading unless you change the systemboard. On the subject of the systemboard, dont bother unless you are getting an i3/5/7 at which time 4-6GB (platform dependent) is all you'll need.
When it comes to graphics, the 4890 is still a strong card for non DX11 games. It is lands between the 5770 and 5830 in DX10 performance. If you dont mind no DX11 just get another 4890. If you want DX11, then you may as well get a 6850 or so price range card.
As for drives, SSDs are nice, but not fully up to their potential. i would hold off until Toggle NAND drives come out. The performance of Toggle NAND is much much greater than the current NAND drives.

kitt your next bottleneck is the cpu/memory after buying a new graphics card. As suggested by others, by a high end q9*** quad cpu, faster ram, or if you just want a faster feeling pc, you could always buy a ssd.

hello please read my first post but very big thank you for replaying.

Iam a noob at this so i want to upgrade and discuss each upgrade here and do my own research on them. So I want to start with upgrading MOBO as iam having problems with this pc..... Been crashing for 3 years iam sick and tired of it.

So first MOBO budget 150 200.

P.S. go along with me and bare with me as I do not know the new systems. Iam an opteron guy back in day that was my expertise now i dunno what the heck is going on lol.

Second Upgrade will be CPU .

Third upgrade will be RAM.

Fourth upgrade will be Graphics Card.

right, what is your budget for the cpu, ram, gpu etc? Cos its bit pointless buying a top of the range mobo if its same socket as one you got now, whereas if its new socket. i.e i5 or i7 you wanna be working with, thats lot different.

Are you trying to buy one part at a time?? Or a mobo that will work with your current chip? As stated above its pointless to spend $200 on a board if its the same socket you are using.

I think you will also have a hard time finding specific parts people recommend if you are going to use the classifieds.

Either way I say
i7-950 or i5-760
best asus or gigabyte mobo you can afford
6 gb's of ram.

Is it your display driver thats always crashing? Are you sure its not your gpu having issues?

this...I've had the same problems about 3 weeks ago with my Sapphire HD 5750...it goes something like "the [insert file/driver here] has recovered successfully"

i remember re-installing my ATi drivers (drivers only...no CCC) installed MSI afterburner and fiddled around with the 2d/3d settings and the errors/crashes/hard crashes were gone...will look into it later as i'm about to leave for work...
