5:50. HuskyStarcraft, with a GTX 480 always has monster lag when that mothership first comes out. Is this what your talking about?

I leave Vsync off whenever I can.

WoW FPS goes from a locked 60 to about 115 average.
I would imagine SCII following a similar pattern but I could be wrong.

Sorry but you are giving me a headache... too many FPS or stock 2d speeds... ummm... play it at more FPS... FPS FPS FPS!!! 200FPS or 1000FPS with tearing...
This card just came out and had two drivers (I believe) so IT'S NOT PERFECT like you are expecting... Especially already regretting that you got the wrong card... You purchased an NVIDIA GPU Flagship which is a nuclear powerplant and currently the fastest single gpu card on the planet and even bests the fastest dual GPU(5970) in minimum FPS.

If anything, consider upgrading to a 120 HZ 1080p 24" monitor if that meets your needs... And stick with the high heat and loudness and enjoy more frames as this is meant what the card is supposed to be doing...

You just sound kind of 'needy' IMO right now as you purchased the fastest graphics card and are trying to 'calm' it down...
Like anything new, updates will come and only make it better... Sorry but what you are looking for is currently not available...
It's like asking for a Ferrari with 600HP that gets 100 MPG back in 1990....

I have zero issues playing SC2 with my 580. Everything is set to max and it looks beautiful.

I do play often, too. Thought I don't see too many Motherships at the 2400 Diamond level.

Kinda defeats the purpose doesn't it?

I mean, my buddy who has 2 5870's has sooo many issues that he was forced to play @ 60 FPS is not happy about it, and it's the opposite here.
You do know that getting 60FPS in some games even with a GTX 580 might not be possible if you use Vsync and say 8-16X AA?

I have a GTX 480 and I know that's not possible and that's at 1680x1050

Believe me when you crank everything up, it's a huge performance hit but makes your $500 dollar card seem worth it.

Just wondering, do AMD cards support AA in SC2 yet? I know it was a forceable option in Nvidia, and like you mentioned, sure took a big hit on the performance. Even with my GTX 295, I was noticing VERY low frames ~25 at 1080p. I have not tried my GTX 580 yet but am sure it will be much better with 1.5GB DDR5 compared to 896 DDR3 and much more of course and more CUDA Cores.... and AA on SC2 does make that difference that looks so much better! Even games like crysis @1080p, I don't need to turn on AA with the motion blur and such, but SC2, looks much better!!!

Could be memory OC unstable? DDR5 has error correction built-in. Maybe thats causing the card to drop to the 2D Clock??? I indeed it is dropping the GPU clock.

I have a 480 and it runs fine. Mothership or no mothership. The effects are very GPU intensive if you are cloaking alot of ships and other things going on at the same time.

Are you using high AA also try dropping that abit?!

I think I know what the issue is and how to solve it, hope the OP can figure it out as well.

I got V-sync working correctly on all my games now, and I admit, forcing vsync does eliminate screen tearing, and does make for smoother game play. ( Of course, you all already knew that )
