580 Scaling, How much better will it get?

Taken from my other thread which was in ATI section:

If AMD has better scaling drivers then by the time we've gotten to the fourth card we will still have better scaling which will in turn lead to better PERFORMANCE. I realize 1 580 murders a 6970, and even at SLIx2 vs CFx2 it wins...i'm just WONDERING, not SAYING that by the 4th cf i would imagine their more mature quad-fire drivers would scale them better than the 580's quad-sli drivers.

Again, i'll NEVER say I'm an expert, this was just my LOGICAL unprofessional educated guess.
THIS^^^^^ Is why this thread exsists, We all know which one is better and we all know what scails better 2v2. But what I wanna know is whats better 4v4 and 3v3.(scailing and performence) And how much will the Drivers Improve?

I was allways under the impression that SLI scales better? Will it get better? I mean I used to have crossfire 5850s, which nearly scailed perfectly on most nerw games. (80%/90%) And Nvidea peoples would always tell me SLI scales better. Will it get much better with new drivers?

What do you guys think?

Thanks Lemon.

2 580's still kill 2 6970's. The ati's scale better but they star out way lower. The only way i would go with 6970's is if you are running 2560x1440 or higher. Even then the 580's still come out on top. I've thought about the 6970's but i believe you would need 3x6970's to best 580 sli. Also you must factor in the drivers...

Honestly it depends. Here are my somewhat subjective experiences coming from sli and then tri 5870s and now sli/tri 480s.

They benchmark similarly, nvidia scaling tends to win by a bit, especially at higher resolutions, but it's not huge. There has been one huge difference, at least for me. Microstutter.... I had quite noticeable amounts of with with both 2 and 3 5870s, enough so that at times 50 fps would feel slow.

I don't get that with the 480s. I can play a game at 35-40 fps and it still feels good.

Still there are a lot of factors, nvidia or AMD can improve/change their algorithms at a moments notice, so it's not easy to predict who is going to improve first.

At high resolutions (where you need multi GPU) vRam is also a big issue, multi GPUs don't increase available ram. I think this has something to do with why we see so little improvement with quadfire/4 way sli atm.

Anyway, I know this is subjective, but it's all we have really. IMO review sites really drop the ball on microstutter. They go way overboard with comparing who has a 5 percent fps advantage, but hardly ever bother to graph microstutter.

I would be really interested to see some current gen data on it (gtx 4**/5** and ATI 5***, 6***) In single, dual, triple, and quad setups. And yes, a single gpu can have microstutter, it just tends to be nowhere near as bad as with multiple GPUs. (A single GPU can still be having large fps fluctuations very quickly, meaning average fps won't tell you the whole story).

Ok so thee is no way of telling, so what about last series? SLI on 480s scales better then Crossfire 5870s even 5850s?
I was sure SLI scales alot better(on the last series), Do you guys think the scaling will get as good as it was on the 480s ect?

I mean no one really knows for sure but Nvidea must have better drivers up there sleeve, I mean look at the 3dmark11 SLI.

What about last time they released 480s, how was the scaling on release drivers?

I really want to know because I wanna make a purchase soon, and I wil go 3 maby 4 way in the future . So I need to make the right choice.

Thanks. Lemon.

Look at my monitors. I play most games at 7998x1600 (bezel corrected), that's ~= 12.7 million pixels. For comparison 1920x1080 is only ~=2.1 million.
