6970 or GTX 570 for my system? - Page 3

I heard the 570 is faster and uses less power. but the 6990 has more Vram which will help if you do get a new monitor to game at higher resolutions.

This is strange (BTW I'm not doubting what you say, I'm just posting this because we'd all, I assume, like to know the fasts):
The AnandTech review says the 570 is 3.3 dB(A) louder under load than the 6970. They're a good review site and I don't expect them to be way out with their figures. I've seen another review that puts the 570 just quieter than the 6970, and overall the reviews seem to have them about level. But I saw the youtube overclock review, which like you said they noticed the 570 was noticably quieter (although not scientific).

yeah i watched that overclock review too, every single review i have seen posts different results regarding temps, however on this occasion i found that in person the 570 was quieter, dont know what else to say really, buy which ever you want, the difference isnt exactly massive is it....

Edit: im sure either will still be quieter than my 9800gt's in SLI

Other then that, the 570 wins more times at 1080P/1200P, while the 6970's 2GB VRAM helps it edge the 570 at 1600P.

Both are great GPU's.
IMO the 570 is the better choice, these drivers are much smoother and this thing overclocks to 580 performance effortlessly.
and you were pro ATI before these new cards came out. I agree with you, GTX570 seems to be a better value. With the EVGA at $329 locally I am tempted to upgrade.

Thread Starter
my resolution is low. my computer is already loud because i like it that way. the 2 cards i'm looking at are the same price.

i'm worried about power consumption and performance.

I've never been pro-anything.
I still have a X3 720/8GB DDR3/2 5770's/770-G45 ready for another backup build.
Its quite fast for what it costs, its all rather cheap actually.
Might sell it we'll see.
Loved that little AM3 build though.

But only 3Dfx has my loyalty.

While this build wasn't cheap, it's been uber fast.
This 570 moves. All games work with no bugs or issues.

Couldn't say that with AMD, although overall it was ok.
The only way to take part in a GPU war is to taste both the green and red punch

do you have any intentions in upgrading to a 1080p monitor anytime soon? otherwise you could really go with a lower end card. just my opinion
