..I can turn HT off and run 4.5ghz with 1.25v but HT on takes 1.34v
Turn HT on and see what it really takes.

Well like I said, HT is a feature of the chip that I paid for and do use, if I wasn't going to use it then I would have settled for an Quad Core i5 or stayed with my old Q9300.

If I ever decide to take my chip higher one day then I will do so whilst keeping HT enabled, even if it does mean having a slightly higher Vcore.

As for the overclock that the OP posted, yes the temps are pretty good, but for the voltage he's using for that overclock and paired with the fact that he has HT disabled I wouldn't exactly call it the "Best i7 970 batch" There have been better 970 chips out there that have achieved much higher overclocks with relatively good Vcore and with HT enabled.

I'm sure if you spend some more time tweaking you could probably fine tune that overclock a bit more and perhaps get a lower Vcore out of it.
