Getting a headset for christmas...

post #1 of 10

and I was wondering what would be best, as I'm completely clueless, and would rather not have my mom spend too much on a crappy set, or even worse, earbuds.

Needs to be closed back, as the whole point in getting them is so I can listen to things at night without disturbing others in the house (very small house, currently no actual walls separating everyone's beds), so HD555's are out of the question;

I would be hard pressed to talk my mom into getting anything that costed over $100CAD, though they will probably be bought during the boxing week sales;

I'll be doing light gaming, and watching movies, as well as some music (if I ever get around to finding music I like, I'm one of those rare people that never got into music, though I'm starting to regret that);

I'm not a big fan of large amounts of bass either.

Also, they will be plugged into the headphone jack on my logitec X-540's, which are plugged into the onboard soundcard.

So, with all these requirements, what does OCN have to suggest for me?

JVC HARX900

55$ USD. Shouldn't be too much more CAD.

Well, I can't find the JVC headset in any of the canadian retailers I know of, and I am slightly iffy on getting a 5.1 headset, so more suggestions are welcome...

Sennheiser HD 555 goes down to $70 sometimes. If it does, get that and that Zalman mic.

No offence, but I would prefer it if you would go back and read the entire OP before commenting.

Sorry for the double post, but I found out amazon.ca has some HD201's (presumable in stock), and was wondering how bad the noise leak is, as I want to use them so as not to disturb people sleeping around me.

Just order from Amazon.com they usualy tell you how much duties and such are when shipping cross border. I order alot from there and usualy pay less with duties included than buying in canada, the Audio-technica ATH-A700 are around 100 right now

Ironically, earbuds would be ideal for your living situation as there a reduced amount of sound/noise leak and much greater noise cancellation with earbuds.

I recommend the klipsch image S4, with great mids, underneath $100 and performance comparable to a Shure.
