Barts XT doesn't like heat... - Page 2

it may be your vrms which are overheating... i doubt it's the core, it should handle 80*c or similar fine. Also.. no voltage support on my 6950 yet and second dvi is dead so RMAing it
Sad day.. even though its snowing like hell outside (and i love snow :3)

Unfortunately Powercolor like to use non-reference boards. I don't know why they do this but it seriously limits their OC and they had serious problems with their 4870's clocked at 800. They got so many RMA'd they dropped their core to 780, this is why I haven't bought a second Powercolor card, despite them being pretty cheap.

I agree with the OP that the 68xx doesnt like heat. If the temperature goes above 80C it becomes very unstable. I once overclocked to 1GHz on the core with 100% fan speed (I could hear the fan in the next room), but 3/4 down Heaven the screen froze. If I use only 50% fan speed, the benchmark would freeze within 1st 3 secs, when the temp was only 70C, strange hur?

Anyway, I just saw this on the forum
http://www.overclock.net/air-cooling...gtx-260-a.html
and I am going to try it out (no $$ for a aftermarket cooler )in the next few days. Will report back the result if you are interested.

I have loads of AS5. I will apply some the moment I get my hands on my card. I can see myself spending another loads of cash on a decent cooler just to OC this thing to 6950 level.

It's ridiculous how much I pay for electronics, despite them being made here. $300 For a 6870 is really unreasonable

Edit: Accelero Twin is a good cooler and not too expensive. If applying AC5 doesn't work I'll be buying one of those, as I want to hit over 1GHz.

Are you using DVI to VGA dongle? Just letting you know that one of the DVI ports on HD 6000 series doesn't work with DVI to VGA, it only supports DVI. Maybe you tested with dongle and thought it was dead?

I would like to see how many people can pass a 10 min run of OCCT with their overclock. OCCT kills any decent OC I put on my cards no matter what voltage I give them. I'm convinced that heat is a major killer on these cards unfortunately.
