Getting 950 OC to 5.0+GHz - Page 2

haha i wouldnt worry too much about double posting and my god, amazing OC.

i'd like to say i had some more tips for you, but i dont =(
i just got my i7 and havent done too much OCing on it due to temps.

going to save up for a WC kit.

a quick visit to google to look for a bios template for you

Temps max just at 80C, this is why I'd have to believe there is more potential. IBT once hit 82C on one core, but that was probably because I forgot Skype was open. It hasn't gone that high recently. Prime can put me around 78C towards the end of any given test. I just reapplied my thermal grease and put my push/pull to intake, since my ambient temps are low (my heat isn't up high, because I'm cheap...lol). Clearly it paid off, because I'm seeing a 5C-7C drop in overall temps.

Anyway, I'd be super excited to set some sort of 24/7 "record" for most moronically high stable oc. Or, just to get over this 4.4GHz wall, because that's what this currently amounts to. Basically all of my settings are on auto [read: lazy] for my stability setup, but playing around with them on higher oc's hasn't ever payed off. I know I may need to up my PCIE, but I've already blanked my SSD once from this, so hopefully I can avoid high freq's in tha area. But, one problem at a time.

Again, any help (or even flaming, if I'm sounding too stupid for my own good...) would be appreciated.

No ideas? I guess nobody wants me to break bass's record, lol. I suppose I could venture out on my own a bit more than I have. Lets just hope I don't fry it.

EDIT: Well, if this goes to page 2 again, I'll probably make a new thread.

yeah for some reason people aren't in this thread like others.

I suggest creating a new thread/bumping this one.

I should probably update everyone here, lol. I hit 4.83GHz bootable (not stable enough to get a CPU-Z validation), on a sealed liquid cooler. Temps were idle around 80C, so I clearly need more cooling. The voltage required to hit 5.xxGHz put me to TJ Max just on boot, therefore it would just reset back to stock bios. I'll be upgrading my cooling over the holidays, and should be able to come away with a mid/high end wc setup. Considering my temps seem quite low for the average 950, and my voltage is under that of many, it seems like 5.xxGHz won't be too bad. It will probably never be capable of 24/7, but might live through enough testing for Forum Wars, or at least set a HWBot record (lol, yeah right).

Anyway, I am still looking for minor tweaks to help stabilize these high OCs. The skew is now at 300ps (200 didn't quite do the job). If anyone has some other ideas, just let me know. Any sort of help is appreciated.

Considering your mobo is pretty much the direct competitor to my X58A-UD3R;
I maxxed at 4.669GHz with water. That was 1.58v. My mobo core voltage has max setting of 1.6v - don't know if yr Asus goes higher...but 1.6 wasn't enough to go higher on the day for me -101 blue screens.

To beat Bass u might need phase or LN2

I've been up to 1.56, and still booted, but with terrible stability (crashed seconds after opening any program). How much upkeep does phase take? I've seen some setups that didn't look too bad, as far as cost, and would go quite well with the rest of my system. I'm not looking for a world record, but as I've said before, the bigger the better.

I'll go scan the cooling forums some more. I'm gathering whatever I can to afford chilling this thing. Hopefully a newer, faster, and considerably cooler line of cpus will come soon, because I really hate watching a computer hit 85+C. I might consider LN2, just for competitions/records and the like, but for a daily, I'm still contemplating what my best option would be.
