Memtest86 Failures. What does it mean?

Thread Starter
I thought I had a stable clock @ 3.5Ghz with prime95 for a while then I tested it with memtest86 and it got errors.

Does this mean it had too little voltage or were they overclocked too much

set timing of ram to stock and set them at their rated fbs.

Then retest.

Fill out your system info. Cant help you if you dont provide us with what parts you have.

Fill in your system info and then maybe we can start from there, because right now i still have no clue what rated CAS your ram are at stock, What their over clock potential is or even what speed they are being ran at.

Kind of obvious actually, it means defective RAM.
SInec you're single stick, try moving RAM to different slots; it might just be a defective memory slot rather than memory. That or you're pushing memory clock with CPU via ref. clock increase and taking it too far.

So you are running 1333Mhz 3.5Ghz and it's not stable, but at 1333Mhz 3Ghz or whatever it is?
This might be a faulty memory multiplier, something that can happen depending on the BIOS of some boards (try updating it).
Then again, with generic 1333 9-9-9 memory, it is expected that you will not get very far as this memory is usually low-quality/low-binned and holds back overclocks.

Thats with the lowest multiplier and no over voltage on the memory....

I tried it with .50 and .100 overvolt to the memory it still had errors on memtest

on stock voltage everything @ 3.2Ghz it's fine though

btw reccomend on what I should do? should I sell this kit and buy new ones? and if so which ones for high overclocks

current kit

Your NB frequency (integrated memory controller) is at 2.5Ghz, though it shouldn't cause any Memtest instability because memtest doesn't test the IMC, I would still suggest upping the CPU-NB voltage. For high overclocks and on a budget 1600 CAS6-7 is ideal. The G.Skill Ripjaws 7-8-7 or ECO 7-8-7 is $70-75 on Newegg, with promo code FBXMAS10 it is only $60.

btw this is stable 3400

How much voltage for CPU-NB
