No! Just no!
It is impossible to future proof, unless you're going to be doing literally the same thing for ever. If you plan on playing the latest games at the max res, then it won't be future proofed at all.
That does not mean that it won't do good now, but it won't do as good for new games at the same settings.

@OP
Get the 570. It's better for lower resolutions. They are about equal in performance, but the 570 costs less. Choice is obvious, isn't it.

At your resolution, you will be fine with the 570, and you can always overclock it to 580 stock performance.
I have to decide now if i should keep my 9600gt for dedicated Physx or the 570 alone it will be enough for the task

If Wow is a major game for you then I think the ATi 6970 is the better bet, slightly lesser frames but ATi handle AA differently in WoW than nVidia, and in a superior way. Here is an old review, nice and indepth so it will still give you a good picture of AA differences.

Except that comparison isn't relevant for the cards the OP is looking at, since both AMD and Nvidia have improved their AA quality.

Fermi especially was a large change in architecture compared to Nvidia's previous one.

I can see what you mean but I have a GTX470 in my game comp and my brother a HD5970, visual quality in WoW was nicer on his when he had it over at my place a few weeks ago, Ill see if i can get a SS to show you on the latest hardware the visual differences still remain in some older games. I wanted to use that review just as a quick reference.

edit: all settings the same

I say 6970,since You already chosen an AMD CPU & Motherboard,add the 6970 & you have an AMD Leo platform where VGA & Chipset drivers are intergrated,Fusion
