alright guys, so i think im ready to build my first PC, i spent alot of time picking out parts and finding the best deals. i believe i have everything i will need to build my computer, and i also believe the parts ive selected are good, and compatible, and that the case i selected will hold everything correctly. can you guys offer criticism and feedback on the build design, and any advice/ anything i may have overlooked or have not taken into consideration? thanks alot everyone

alright, probably a HUGE point i should have mentioned is, this is not a gaming machine. this is for casual use, and working with graphics editing. and possibly video editing, depending where my pursue of a career in editing takes me. with this in mind, what is a better choice, i7 950, or PHIIx6?

Well,

It's a nice start, however.

Drop the 1090 to the 1075. Go with a samsung spinpoint F3 1TB drive. That PSU is pretty meh, I'd personally shell out a little more for the Antec truepower new 650, it is just that much better. Nice choice of motherboard and screen. Also, that GPU isn't going to do the rest of the rig any justice. Mine struggles on a few games nowadays.

Not sure about you, but my 5770 can play any game fine...Not necessarily COMPLETELY maxed out, but pretty much everything but shadows on high.

with 950's going for $ 200.00 these days AMD is a poor choice IMO

Price preformance argument is history

i7 power can be yours with a small boost in motherboard costs

Not a fanboy, simply facts

If you can only swing the 5770 I would go with a reference design, the egg coolers are terrible .....

I agree a few extra dollars for an Antec would be money well spent

Best of luck to ya

Well that's a generalisation. I can't play Metro with much on high at all. Can't play crisis on high. The tesselation performance for this card is crap. It struggles with anything higher than x4AA and MSx8. I just think it'd be worth dropping another $50 - $60 on a better card.

I disagree, while it is nice to have faster cards I would spend now on getting the best platform....

These cards are going to be able to be had for under a hundred bucks with in a month so you could CF up and get to almost 5870 preformace on the cheap

Over clocked with a 4Ghz i7 pushing them it would be a capable gaming / what ever you throw at it rig

Assuming a budget of $925 (the sum in $$$ of all those parts minus the monitor, case...)
1090T + HD 5850 - $404, 374 AR
ASUS M4A79XTD EVO + Antec Earthwatts EA750 - $179, 164 AR
G.Skill Ripjaws 7-8-7 - $70
Corsair H50 - $72, 57 AR (The rear fan on the NZXT Phantom is a 120MM so it works)
Samsung F3 1TB - $60 shipped, superbiiz
OCZ Vertex 2 60GB - $130, 110 AR

Much, much better parts in performance tier & quality for $915 before MIR's Get the 1055T + HD 5850 instead [$354, $324 AR] (overclocks to about the same levels on a good mobo) and you save even more.

Look at my sig rig. I dont know what your budget is? thats a big one. But the I7 950 is the better choice, really. and if you can afford it the rampage III formulia or the gigabite board . I think the middle board (will look it up if someone dosent mention it)

Scrap that vid card for a 460 , if you ever want to sli you need to up the PSU. if not get one like mine you wont be sorry. Perhaps look at HAF 932 great case.

The SSD is a good choice but try and go with 2x of those or 1-128g. You could save your self some money and look for used parts people are selling, some good deals. We can help you find some deals if you need.
