I have a stock cooling i7-860 and curious if I can Oc this cpu a little?

Thread Starter
I am not completely new to OCing my 470 is running 775/1500/1760 and stays under 85c with stock voltage and fan profile at 65% under load. Anyway is it possible to OC a i7-860 without to much trouble or problems, also my cpu temps are 30C idle- 60C load. Is that about normal for stock cooled i7-860? Thanks for any help/info!

sounds about normal for stock cooled. you can push it a lil bit on the stock cooler but dont expect 4.0 or anything.

You are going to want to get some sort of aftermarket cooling before you are trying to OC it. Its going to heat up real quick.

Any overclock on a stock cooler is going to leave you coming away unfulfilled and wanting more (that's what happened to me). Buy yourself a nice cooler the first time round, I upgrade my cooler 2 times before I got my Noctua, the previous coolers are sitting in their respective boxes collecting dust now.

i opened this thread just to hear people say no. and your question was answered already. but you might be able to squeeze like 200mhz out, def not worth it really. just get a cooler master hyper 212 and you will open up so much more OC potential. or like the poster said before, just grab your H70/H50/d14 and hit 4ghz and feel like a champ. up to your budget really.
