It's too bad Android users have to wait so long for updates, either from Google or from their carriers. Can't be a satisfying experience at all.

If you have a Google phone, you get updates very quickly (along with a damn nice phone). Alternatively, you have the CHOICE of other phones.

The problem is the proprietary Galaxy S modem does not support the newer kernel.

So does this mean that it'll likely never work on a Fascinate? For Verizon, the Eris has a rudimentary Gingerbread port with functional 3G/CDMA.

Can't wait till this port is finished! It'll be amazing when I'm running 2.3 and SGS is only officially 2.1. I went to Best Buy yesterday, and the lady that had the Nexus S demo unit also personally owned a vibrant. We were geeking out about how we had 2.2 roms on our phones and couldn't wait for this port. Nexus S is a solid piece of hardware though.

the way HTC and samsung does radio is way too different. i have a feeling it'll be a long while before any of the SGS variant phones get working data.

Im sorry, but I have to agree with him. I have had a G1, MT3g, Nexus One and now a Nexus S. The reason I go for the straight Google phones is because phone companies and manufacturers cannot keep their crap off Android. The reason it takes them so long to get updates out is because they all have to add their own crap and take out what they dont like. Its sad to see fast phones like the Galaxy S coming with 2.1.

I absolutely love Android, but I can not stand what most companies do to it. Gingerbread is officially out and A LOT of handsets aren't even running Froyo is just sad.
