The reason it takes them so long to get updates out is because they all have to add their own crap and take out what they dont like. Its sad to see fast phones like the Galaxy S coming with 2.1.

I absolutely love Android, but I can not stand what most companies do to it. Gingerbread is officially out and A LOT of handsets aren't even running Froyo is just sad.

Should I be getting an OTA update for Gingerbread on my N1?

There have been some rollouts. My nexus one hasn't received it yet, but a friend of mine got his 2 days ago. Not sure how they are handling it.

Edit: Did you get the first of 2 updates? There are supposed to be 2 separate updates to Gingerbread.

Whatever you, or forumviewer, may feel about that, it does not make this or this post any less off topic in this thread, or any less likely to start a flame war.

While most of the time I would agree with you, the very existence of this thread is because of what I said. They shouldnt have to be porting Gingerbread to the Galaxy S if Samsung and the phone companies were doing things right.

I got a few 2.2 updates in the past few days. Currently sitting with 2.2.1 FRG83D.

Wait, I thought you could update older Android phones to the new 2,3?

So my Samsung Galaxy 5 Wont be able to upgrade to Android 2,3?

I couldn't agree more. It's really lazyness on Samsung's part. I think HTC is doing a nice job overall on getting out the updates and have already promised 2.3 on most of their devices.

To be stuck on 2.1 to this present day is an embarrassment on Samsung's part. Being able to get 2.2 through XDA doesn't fix the fact that we still haven't gotten the source code.

This whole thread is about porting over 2.3 to Galaxy S. Samsung has refused to comment on making this upgrade official. If this isn't on topic then I don't really know what is.

Be that as it may, my point stands. To use another example, it would be like someone going into a thread that announced a new jailbreak for iOS and talking about how big of a fail it is that you need to to that. Not saying that's my personal opinion, I'm just stating that that is a similar situation. Not the thread for it, at least it wasn't. Not it might as well be with all the talk about it, lol.

Not quite the same. Assuming that iOS released 5.0 for the iphone 4 and then refused to comment on the update being provided for the ipad and iphone3gs. Despite the fact that Apples engineers stated that the update would be possible.

If someone from the jailbreaking community releases the update then it's only nature that we talk about Apple's refusal to comment.

I really can't think of a good reason for samsung to not release this update. Besides the fact that it would make the nexus s look like a striped down galaxy s with a curved screen and a new barcode reader.
