It "works well" because you haven't been drawing anything close to what it is rated for, and we don't even know if it is over rated or not. If you put a 5850 in there and a new quad, your system might be close to drawing 450w at full load and it might go out or take components with it. It sounds like a pretty cheaply made unit.

Does it have any pci-e power connectors(6-pin) or did you use molex adapters to connect your 5750?

No, not at all. I had this CPU and RAM in my signature, and only last year in February did I move from a 8600GT to an 8800GTX.

To the original poster, your PC will last for that long, but by that time you will not only be 18 and have more money anyway, but you would also probably have found a much cheaper alternative to your current PC. In 3 years i7 will be really really cheap, but then again, game requirements will be much higher. I predict in 3 years time that 16GB RAM will be normal, along with 4GB graphics cards - octocore CPUs will definitely be normal, because they are already planning them very soon. 16 core processors are likely to be around then, along with about 10GHz per core. Basically, compare your dual core to a 6GHz 12 core, it's hard to imagine that, but I'm sorry - I don't think you can stretch a gaming PC over 6 years (your cpu is from 2007).

You should try to sell things and save money, your biggest problem is the graphics card. Try to sell it soon and use money to get a GTX 460 - best price/performance, and then try to sell your CPU, motherboard and RAM fast to get a cheap Sandy Bridge or i3 / i5 with 4GB DDR3 RAM.

lol at 10ghz.

I highly doubt that. And 16 cores? that is pretty hard to see in even 6 years.

6 years ago we started seeing dual cores, and we are currently only at 6 core processors for the high end.

Up to 2012 December.

There's no Nostradamus in here AFAIK. Tho you'll be able to play games like minesweeper for even longer.

Your system will last you 3-4 years easily. You will just have to use less than ultra settings to achieve good frame rates.

Some people are obsessed with calling even a half generation of difference obsolete, Give me a Q6600 and an 8800GT and you can still game.

Are you serious? You haven't heard about the new CPUs coming out soon with 12 core? Intel has already planned them, and that means 16 core isn't far off at all.

Actually, here's some information about AMD Operton's cores.

I can't help but feel some folks are greatly exaggerating game requirements. Saying that a 5970, GTX 580s and so on won't even last a few years? Maybe if you intend to max every game, but even lower-end hardware can easily be stretched out for quite a while.

My brother was still gaming with his 8800GTS 640MB this year with no problems. He only upgraded because the card physically stopped working. Sure, an 8800GTS was more powerful a few years ago than a 5750 is now, but games aren't exactly getting much more difficult to run, even in the high-end sector.
