I presume he would want to overclock but if not get something like a hyper 212 and spend the difference on a better case.
but to be honest I would give it like 22 days for sandybridge to come out.
As other's have said, this build is much better than the OP, though the Noctua HSF could be swapped for something cheaper and even the 6870 dropped to a 6850 (overclocked they perform fairly closely) to allow for a storage HDD to be added. The Hyper 212 WILL allow an overclock on the system and would be a perfect starting point.
Otherwise, this above build is a much more balanced build, and that it managed to get a true quad-core i5, a better MB, insanely better GPU, better RAM, better cooling, bigger HDD AND an SSD for the exact same price shows just how much money was wasted in the OP's build.
OP - your build get's a 4/10, for the same reasons others have listed; RAM, PSU, GPU, CPU, MB, Case, Heatsink - all choices which could be improved upon vastly.
However I will deviate from some others and say that the Bluray player, given he will be hooked up to his TV is a good idea - the prices are getting so low on these it's becoming worth it.
But yeah, revise your build balance ideas and research further on max price/performance/quality components before adding them. Also, post your builds on here BEFORE you purchase them for friends whilst you're still learning how to balance a build.Edited by willibj - 12/18/10 at 10:25am
