water not clear anymore

Thread Starter
i just sold my water cooling kit and the person who bought it said the water is a blueish black color? now i used only distilled water nothing else. and the water was clear for me not pure clear but just a hint of cloudy. the rad pump and res sat for about a month with no water in it. whats making the water do this and how do we clean it.

happy holidays,

flush with antibacterial warm soapy water? sounds like algae or some kind of biological (maybe mildew) build up in small amounts of water still left in the loop.
while sitting around microbials built up in the loop, just gotta flush it. no big deal

Flush for an hour or two with a mix of 25% white (or distilled) vinegar and 75% distilled H2O. Drain and repeat with a fresh blend.

Should clear up in no time.

i was thinking of bleach is this good?
Bleach most likely WILL corrode copper. The reduction potential for ClO- (the main component in bleach) is 0.89V. The reduction potential for Cu is 0.34V or 0.52V depending on the final oxidation state. This means that ClO- is a strong enough oxidizing agent to corrode your copper if you have any.

As a side note, if you already have algea in there and you want to clean it, be sure to use a caustic cleaner rather than an acidic one. Acid will greatly accelerate the rate of corrossion of copper.

Chlorine is on the acrylic "not resistant" list. I like hooking it to the faucet and doing a hot tap flush, just don't turn the water on too high or you could damage the rad with too much pressure. Then flush with distilled.
