Best smartphone for AT&T

I am eligible for an upgrade from my iphone 3G and I want an Android phone. I had my eye on the Samsung Captivate but I just want to see what you guys think is the most powerful Android from AT&T. I can get it for $100 with 2 year plan so that's pretty cheap. I want something with a fast processor, nice screen, good virtual keyboard. Also if there is anything coming out soon that is going to be awesome please let me know. Thanks

agreed!

iOS - iPhone 4
Android - Captivate or if you want a bigger screen, Dell Streak especially at $100!!!
WP7 - The Samsung Focus but I prefer the build quality of the HTC Surround

I think my Nexus One is still the best AT&T phone. On Anandtech, the N1 was still loading web pages faster than the Nexus S.

The streak is really big though. It is probably annoying to have in your pocket. Im almost sold on the Captivate but is there anything coming out in the near future worth waiting for? Can you overclock the captivate with those special programs? Thanks

There are Captivates out there running @ 1200, 1400. If you want a Captivate, you had better be ready to really get familiar with XDA Developers. The phone doesn't shine until you get rid of the stock Eclair rom, convert the file system, etc. The good news is all this stuff is relatively easy to do by running one of the many custom roms out there.

I'm pretty happy with my Captivate, but I do spend a fair amount of time tinkering with it. Every time I have to flash back to stock 2.1, I cry at how slow and crappy the phone is though...

The one phone I do have my eye on though, is the Motorola Olympus. The Motorola should release sometime in '11 Q1. I don't know of many other high end Android offerings besides that. I'm also really hoping for a Nexus S release with proper cell bands for ATT 3G.

Honestly, the BEST android is the HTC Desire. What my friends did was buy an iPhone 4 and sold it for more and used the funding to buy an unlocked HTC Desire A8182 (very important model number because this model works 100% with both AT&T 3G bands).

Not only is it the best, you can even use the $10 unlimited family plan on it! Nexus One is already flagged in their system to automatically add the $30 data plan.

If I wasn't so attached to the jailbreak and email management of the iPhone 4, I would get this over anything else lol

Also I'm sure Google/Samsung will definitely release the Nexus S with AT&T 3G bands in the future like they did the Nexus One.

I wouldn't mind messing around with things to make the phone better so thats fine with me.I have been reading about the LG Optimus with the dual core processor but I dont think that will be coming to AT&T thanks
