Sound card to replace the Auzentech prelude x-fi

Thread Starter
My new board will only have one pci slot which will be used by my network adaptor. it will have a couple pci-e 1x slots.

If i replace my auzentech prelude x-fi, what is out there that compares to sound quality. I am powering klipsch 5.1 speakers.

What do you guys recommend? I dont really want to take a step down from the prelude so keep that in mind.

has to be pci-e 1x

Does it have to have an X-Fi?

no, just as long as it sounds as good as my prelude for music, and video games.

What would your budget be? And would you use headphones as well?
The auzentech x-forte is great. It's almost identical to your card except it's pcie x1 and has a built in headphone amp. That would be your best gaming choice.

If you care more about pure stereo sound quality, I would get something like the ht omega, but you will take a gaming hit compared to your last card.

TBH I really would go with the x-forte.

Asus Xonar D2X or STX.

I have had a prelude and an STX. I can honestly say the STX felt like an upgrade.

Good recommendation, supposedly Auzentech is supposed to get new stock of the Forte's soon. X-Fi, PCI-E, and deacent DAC and headphone amp all for $150

Keep in mind the STX is meant for headphone/stereo setups.. I would look into a D2X or Forte instead for your surround setup

Well if you can wait just a little bit you can get a Forte:
