extern screen for laptop

Thread Starter
Hi all.

I got a laptop where the screen is broken, so i cant see anything at all.
for a few weeks now i have just been using a normal vga screen instead, but suddently i cant see anything on it. The screen dosnt see that theres a laptop connected, and i dont know why. i turned it off last night like i always do, and it installed some updates, and now its dead. any ideas what to do? i know the screen works, cause just tested with another laptop.

Thanks.

Did you install a video driver or something? Have you let it sit for awhile and see if something pops up?

i dont know about the videodriver, but it is possible. it was just windows update that downloaded and installed 13 updates, so i dont know. and yes, it has been standing for 20 min now with no reaction.

Might be the port's broken? Got another screen somewhere to see if that might be the problem?

Also, might wanna find out what kind of updates it installed. Might be some setting it changed. And try, if you have it, pushing the "External screen" button on your PC. Might be it reset the settings to only show the laptop screen. For my laptop, the keybinding for it is F4 (or function + F4).

It might have added a VGA driver or something... Did you click anything from the "Optional Updates" or anything? Try the FN key combo too.

EDIT: Beat me to the FN key.

If the FN key doesn't work, try booting to safe mode. I can't remember from memory how to do it without looking, but you can look it up on the internet. Maybe the updates updated a driver, causing the display to stop working.
