Just purchased my second MSI R6950 TF 3 OC\PE barley used from ebay w all original packaging and even told my girlfriend I was purchasing it before i did to get approval first HA!

hope i can unlock it, if not no big deal CF here I come! and we will see if my silverstone 4 rail (18amp per rail) 750 watt PSU can handle it may have to upgrade to make it all work

FYI, Ive got a "new" (to me) unlocked sapphire 6950 dirt 3 (unlocked) - and well just look at the data:

ref card - unlocked
910MHz core 1175mv 1320MHz mem
56C GPU temp
fan speed 2960 rpm (51%)
gpu utilization 99%

case closed
dirt 3 - unlocked
840MHz core 1100mv 1320MHz mem
56C GPU temp
fan speed 3775 rpm (80%)
gpu utilization 99%

case open
dirt 3 - unlocked
840MHz core 1100mv 1320MHz mem
52C GPU temp
fan speed 3775 rpm (60%)
gpu utilization 99%

Numbers aside, the reference card is much less irritating while folding than the dirt 3 card. Above 60%, it's rather noticeable, as the dual fans seem to "sing".

At the same fan percentage, it's MUCH quieter, but it's not at all what I expected. On a possibly related note, the ref card runs cooler with the case closed.

I'm new to Xfire and had a question regarding my 6970s; figured this was the place to ask it

So I opened up AMD Overdrive just to check temps on my CPU and noticed that the voltages and frequency on my 2nd 6970 were less than half of my 1st. Is this normal and if so, in what situation? Should both be utilized when streaming video and playing a game? Not a very intensive game mine you (League of Legends). Thanks guys

You should find your lower card running slower and cooler than the upper card. These cards will throttle back when they are not being used.
Not all games and software will take advantage of crossfire. You can get profiles from AMD that should have working settings for most popular games, and if you would like to make your own you can always download Radeon Pro.

This will let you create new profiles on your own. (note they are not AMD profiles, but Radeon Pro profiles).

Hey guys my Display driver stops working and recovers at stock settings it just started doing this the last couple days, it's an XFX 6970 any idea's?

Did you check the temp it gets to before it stops working? Have you tried setting the power control all the way to +20? Lol, looks like you shouldn't have any power issues. How often does it happen?

I would use a driver uninstaller to remove the driver and then reinstall it (if you haven't tried that already). Have you updated your driver recently? I know a new one came out about a week ago. I haven't upgraded. Last time I upgraded too soon and had some driver related issues in Skyrim I could only get rid of by going to a newer beta.

Another thing you could try is to make a backup image of your system and do a quick Windows install, install the driver and a couple of games and see if the problem persists. (Yeah, I know there's not really any such thing as a "quick Windows Install" anymore considering all the mobo drivers and updates and junk).

If none of this helps, you may be looking at an RMA if it keeps up.
