It doesnt really matter on PCB. If the core can unlock (if the shaders arent laser cut) then it will happen. otherwise not.

Just noticed Newegg has the ASUS 6970 Brick Edition in stock now. Now if only MSI would release the Lightning so a comparison can be done.
That one did 1100Mhz with 1.2v
MSI's one will probably need 10 revisions to do 1Ghz. :/

So, I paid extra for expedited shipping, and my brand new XFX 6950 2GB arrived today.

Bought on eBay for $235 + $25 for 2-day shipping from Canada brings the total to $260 shipping.

Newegg has it for $323 shipped, but they're offering a $30 MIR this week bringing it down to $293 shipped. I'm not sure how this guy is able to sell this card for $33 less than Newegg, but I'm definitely happy.

Can't install it until later tonight, but I will post 3dMark scores tonight. Coming from SLI BFG GTS 250s that got about 15500 in 3dmark06. If this thing gets a 25% improvement for the $75 difference I paid after selling my old cards, I'll be a very happy camper.

So I installed my 6950, unlocked the shaders and overclocked to 940/1400 with CCC +20% and vcore @ 1.175 and the results are pretty good. My 3dMark Vantage GPU score went from 15000 to 18500. Haven't pushed it any further, but so far so good. Losing nVidia physx dropped my CPU score, but I expected that going in. Ran BOINC using Milkyway@home overnight, and in 8 hours I got about 65000 BOINC points (crunching for the OCN team). General gaming FPS went up about 20% from my GTS 250 SLI. And that doesn't even give an accurate picture, since I upgraded to a 1920x1080 monitor from 1650x1080 with the new card.

Slight hiccup when setting up the system -- my ThermalCRAP water block started leaking when running a leak test. Already ordered a Swiftech Apogee XT to replace it. Right now I'm using a Zalman 9500 CPU cooler I had lying around, so I had to back down the overclock to 3.6Ghz for now. Once I get the new block, I plan on going up to 4.25Ghz, which should reduce the CPU bottleneck a bit.

Lastly, I'm considering investing in an EK waterblock for the card. The only complaint I have about the card is that when the fan ramps up over 40%, the cooling is unbelievably loud. Louder than any card I've owned before, in fact. That and the increased overclocking potential makes the water block seem like a good investment. Otherwise, I have to say I'm a very happy customer.
