Is anyone aware of a reason why my clocks will drop on my card during 3d sessions? I've got an AB profile set for 900/1375 (stock voltage). Things have been running fine at 880/1325, though I remember seeing this issue before, just not as commonly. When I see the clocks drop (I've got a G15 keyboard running with GPU-Z displayed 24/7) during gaming, I hit the AB profile hotkeys to go back to 900/1375, but it shortly drops again. Does this have to do with powertune in CCC or something, or am I pushing the clocks too high and it's nicely telling me to pump my breaks without crashing the computer?

You could try the power control settings in the CCC. Also try shutting AB down, the OC should still be on

Hi
When i tried flashing my 6950 with 6970 bios i got art on 3DMark Vantage max settings right at the first test.
Will changing the power settings in CCC to +20 help with this, or I need to mod the bios and up the voltage on the mem?

Another question. Since i got this card my PSU started squealing during games.
I pluged in an OCZ Fatality 550W, and it too made some kind of sound, not squealing though. So I changed my Enermax to a new one of the same model and it still has the same squealing.

The sound itself doesnt bother me (headphones+fans at max), my only concern is for the wellbeing of my rig. Is it safe to say that everything is fine with my PSUs and nothing will blow up any time soon (knock on wood ), and the squealing could be some kind of individual incompatibility(or just the card has high ripple somehow)? I know it's not the right thread, sorry

PS Had 5770 before and no extra sounds from anywhere

It's been proven that flashing the HD6950 to an HD6970 can cause problems and kill the cards.

I'd flash back to the HD6950 2GB BIOS if I was you, and I would just unlock the shaders.

The bios itself kills cards? Hard to believe. Isn't it the same as overclocking?
I haven't heard of any burned 6950 that were killed but flashing to 6970. Sure, the memory is different, but thats what overclocking is for

PS the shaders are unlocked, but it doesn't really change anything.

They are not burned literally, but the memories DO degrade after time because they're not meant to run as fast as the HD6970's ...

How fast? I am planning to keep the card for max 2 years, maybe less.

You can't really tell when it will end up dying....

But I would not do a complete flash, take it back to the HD6950 2GB Bios and just unlock the shaders, don't flash the rest....

The squeling sound most probably comes from the GPU itself. And its perfectly normal. Also I've heard that memory timings for 6970 are a bit different to 6950 timings so that could mean problems. If I were you, I'd just unlock the shaders from the original bios and overclock the card manually, you wouldn't be facing the incorrect timings problem with memory. Just my

Nope, the squealing comes from the PSU itself. (from all 3 i tested, except one was not really squealing, but still)
I will try to mod my bios with 6970 values manually, thanks.
