So now that I reinstalled AB and Kombuster, I set up voltages and some overclocks for fun. I ran some benches as requested, for fair comparison and to back up my previous statements.

You'll see in the screens the details.

This second one was right after, showing the other GPU, so that's why it's cut off in time, but they were each running for ~20 minutes in my room that is about 25-26c.

Haha, I didn't set my clocks or voltage back, and I started seeing some white specs in my GPU-Z screen shots (artifacts). Whoops. :-/

That's great. Can you show us some FPS differences in a few games? I was thinking about a minor o/c for my gfx cards, but since I just paid about $700 for them I'm a little on the chicken side. Are they nice and stable? How's the heat?

What should I do, I can jump to the store tomorrow and RMA it, or is this normal and i have nothing to worry about?
Wow, tough decision there bud. Is it overclocked at all? Or did you do the 6970 flash? I'm downloading vantage right now, I will leave another comment after I test it out.

Those are NZXT Sleeved LED Kits. They come in 1m and 2m lengths, red, white and blue (nach). They come with a rear slot cover with a power switch, and a 3 position switch for 3 light levels, and they plug into 4 pin molex. I modded mine to mount the power and level switches on the front of the case so I don't have to reach around (so to speak) to get at the controls.

Here is a pic of the front of the case with the LED controls:

By buddy has a cooler master half x and used the same LED kit. He managed to mount the controls in one of the hard drive bays and it fits perfectly, so all his controls are completely hidden.

The best thing is they only cost about $15 - $20 depending on where you get them and what size you choose.

Mergatroid,
No, it's not overclocked. I ran Heaven Bench and haven't seen anything either.

I have been playing with overclock a bit. Tried to get 880 core stable, but dunno... i ran 3 tests of 3DMark 11 30 times each, and on the fourth test, after 30 rounds, when I went back to desktop everything froze... so i ran it again, and after 65 rounds it just stopped, and i got a message that the video driver froze... ***? Program failure or bad overclock?

PS Tried the latest version of Vantage, the 1.1, and it has even more artifacts in the first test... in dif colors now ))

I have just run Vantage a few times with no artifacting at all and no issues. If you ran it at stock speeds and still got the artifacting, if I were you I would RMA the card.

First things first though, download the ATI driver uninstaller, and if there is one for your previous graphics card, download it as well and run them both. Once done, reboot and reinstall your ATI drivers and rerun Vantage. If you still get the same problem, RMA the card and make sure you explain to the people at the store what the problem is you were having. If it shows up in Vantage, eventually it could show up in a new game you purchase.

Make sure you're only using one monitor. For several graphics benchmarks I've run over the last few days I had to disable my 2nd monitor to get then to run properly.

BTW, that's a sweet assed case you got there.

Nope, just 1 monitor. It's strange, though, how just only 1 test has artifacts... i mean, out of all the tests in Vantage - just the first one. And in the other programs i ran i had no issues. Is it really worth to RMA?

All you post is the GPUz, i want to see a furmark screenshot running in burning mode WITH GPU z screenshot of the shaders and the sensor temperatures ( run 2 GPU z instances) in ONE screenshot. Furthermore, for proper comparison, unlock the shaders.

All I can say is, at around $300 a pop, I wouldn't risk possible future problems. It looks like you have an abnormality in your card. It's up to you, but at that price I would expect them to work properly.

As a longshot, you could try downloading Vantage from a different site in case your version is corrupted somehow.

After running this:

I realized you wanted burn-in, not benchmark demo loop. I ran the xtreme burn-in test afterward, and powertune kicked in dropping my GPU clocks. The Vreg temp on my primary card did get up to and float around 65c, however my secondary card went idle for that test oddly enough. You can clearly see where I was missing two screws from XSPC and didn't screw down the full-block cooler on the first card, as that is where those abnormally high temps on temp3 come from. You called it! I emailed XSPC to get more screws, so hopefully I can fix that soon and drop those temps another 10c, though it really isn't performing that bad as it is.

So my conclusion is that your temps on Vreg were not that off by any measure. I didn't believe it because nothing put that much pressure on that chip like kombuster/furmark burn-in, not even full bore benchmarking, demoing, or looping. Heck, even folding didn't stress it that much (but I could be doing folding wrong).

Hopefully my experience can help some people with questions they have.

Don't know, the plate over my VRMs is hot at all times. Il try remounting and see where it goes. Still though, id get the EK block over this due to flow over the VRMs.
