my cards for quad are coming in on tuesday and i think i'm going to try to get away with a CM SP1200 to run them cuz i don't wanna pay 400$ for a PSU. everything is still under warranty, so i'd only be out a bunch of rma's if anything blows up.

Just had my 6970 RMA'd. It was a reference 6970 by sapphire, and they are sending me the blue pcb custom fan shroud model back instead. Anybody know how it compares to the reference cooler, or if it's just basically the same thing? Also..is the board basically a reference size in case I ever wanted to install a backplate?

It's this one:

I have that card;

The only downside is you won't have the Dual bios switch.

The good side;

- The cooler is a lot quieter (At 50% it sounds like the reference at 40%), which is a great bonus to be honest.
- They tend to overclock a lot better than the reference cards (I've seen them up to 980Mhz core without voltage increase.
- They look cooler to me.

I'd be happy with that card, if not, feel free to swap it with me for my reference card so I can have 2 blue pcb cards, I love them.
