The only downside is you won't have the Dual bios switch.

The good side;

- The cooler is a lot quieter (At 50% it sounds like the reference at 40%), which is a great bonus to be honest.
- They tend to overclock a lot better than the reference cards (I've seen them up to 980Mhz core without voltage increase.
- They look cooler to me.

I'd be happy with that card, if not, feel free to swap it with me for my reference card so I can have 2 blue pcb cards, I love them.
Thanks for the info! :]
Those sound like some good points. I know the reference one I had was hella loud. It stayed on 35% fan speed 24/7 and it wasn't too audible & was pretty cool.
The new one looks pretty nifty. I was just thinking about a backplate because it is a pretty long card and I don't want it to sag too much.

No worries, I'm glad I could help you out.

I'm not sure if there's any backplate available for this card, I've never bothered to look for one, as it is fine just like that.

All in all I say keep that card, I love it .

Can I join?

MSI R6970 Lightning

Also how does one enable the core voltage and shader clock features?

Adjustable shader clocks is pretty much a Nvidia only feature.

To enable the unofficial overclocking it is necessary to edit the MSIAfterburner.cfg file located in the installation directory of AfterBurner (typically Program Files (x86) MSI Afterburner):

You need to alter the following:
Seek UnofficialOverclockingEULA field and add following text:
I confirm that I am aware of unofficial overclocking limitations and fully understand that MSI will not provide me any support on it
Set UnofficialOverclockingMode to 1
To enable voltage control/monitoring you can also change those values to 1.
