HMMm..

core - memory - volts - purporse

910 - 1480 - 1.22Vcore/+.1Mem/+.1AUX - cs1.6, gen purpose for extreme stability
935 - 1520 - 1.245Vcore/+.1Mem/+.1Aux - General heavy games - c2 etc,
965 - 1550 - 1.275Vcore/+.1Mem/+.1Aux - when I can't hit 60fps ..Witcher2.. and airconditioning on!!

This is with the unlock . Btw, can manage 885/1.175Vcore(stock 6970)/1450(not bothered with this) -- just cause you asked for stock clocks which btw tells one nothing :/

W/o the unlock , used to manage 950Core @ 1.225V while now I manage 910 ONLY but w/ 1.22Vcore.

So did the cow go BOOM or POW !!

The cow goes "BOOOOOM HEADSHOT!"

I disagree with the stock voltage OC telling nothing. On the stock vcore (1.175 volts) I'm hitting 1000 core, and had maxed out CCC without trying on air cooling, but didn't like the noise, hence the switch to water. The 1500 RAM speeds are what I should be able to do, but I haven't tried increasing volts to the card yet. I would imagine I might be able to get some fairly serious overclock. I might have to try 1.22 volts and see how far that takes me. I know my car has maxed at 41C under Furmark, with the OC and +20% power profile, in mid 80s F ambient temperature outside the case. Usually the room is 68-72F, and if the ambient temps are kept that way, the car never goes higher than 39C on the core, with VRM and RAM around 42C.

Let's see who can get a higher overclock, within reason of course. I'm always up for a little friendly competition.

Yes, I have yet to puch my vram , and this is the ONLY card so far that hasn't artifacted in my OC'ing , will push 1600 in a few day's time ( outta station) and let you know ... If they're undervolted, then I could potentially run then at 1600+ using my overvolting on the vram ! I have Vram tweaaking !

COW !!

Well , what I meant to say was thus : If I 've foud my max reasonable OC , at THAT point , I doubt one could worry at all about stock volts but I get your point ! well , its 910 w/o the unlock and 885 w/ the unlock !! so OBV the extra need moar voltsss!! eh ?
the 6970 is just stabler I suppose and thus that card may do 1GHz on stock volts ( which is rare, but rare happens)

NOW , WHEN I SET volts on the unlocked 6950 (basically a 6970) to STOCK 6970 volts, I manage 910 .. not too much of an improvement! Ah , well ...
Thus if one had the cash , 6970 > 6950 just for the increased margin, but this is not always true.

My card is a dud ... maxing out at 965 despite 1.275Vcore ... but the Vram is something else !
GOes from 1250 to 1550 !! And I bet I can take it higher ! From what LETHALRISE had to say , these chips are rated at 1600 but MAY have reduced volts, thus the reduced clocks.. If thats the case ,I should be able to overvolt and take them over 1600!!!

THB , I cannot believe that you manage 1GHz from 775 MHz stock on stock volts on a 5850 --> From what I remember , the 5850 has less shaders than a 5870 .Also the die size was barely manageable and expensive to produce, were in scarcity, and 5870 yields that didn't come out right would prolly have been branded as the 5850s and 5830s ? I could be so wrong , feel free to catch me , I know little about Cyprus! Those extra SPs must be unstable .. I honestly doubt you'd manage 1GHz on that :/
try posting a screenwhile running w/ GPU-z ( the monitoring page) and 20 minutes of Occt on shader 8 error check . This is news worthy! with powertune on +20% if that limits your card..

Thanks maite!

If I DID have another 6950 , u'd have had a tough time competing .. btw , I HAVE taken my card to 990MHz on 1.27V when it was unlocked ... as of now , I'm 3 days from home

Just ordered a Powercolor PCS+ 6970 2gb today and should have in hand by this weekend. I am excited as hell. Ill post back when it arrives and see if I can be put on the list as well.

So wait, you can't just use Afterburner to OC these cards? I was planning on maybe grabbing two 6950's so I don't really need to OC, but just curious.

I have a 5850 in my sig rig, yes, that's been around 900 with a very slight voltage bump. Not considered a screamer these days, but the card holds its own. I also have a Sapphire 6970 bought in late December last year. That card is what I'm referencing when I say 1Ghz core and 1.5 Ghz RAM on stock voltage. The 5850 is just the spare card I'm using, as the 6970 is sitting with a waterblock on it, still in a loop, but the system is lacking CPU and motherboard (waiting on Bulldozer to see if it's any good). I'm not sure if I could get the 5850 to 1Ghz, but I know the card has some headroom left in it. Once the bigger system is back together, the plans are to throw a second 6970 in the mix, and see how well it fares. As for 5850 vs 6950...big difference in performance. A 6870 will walk on a 5850.

Yeah , 6870 > 5850 but by not much , and OC'ing both the cards, a 5850OC = 6870 OC .

Overall , I'd say that 1GHz on the 6970 is not unheard of .. at stock ,nice... have fun with voltage bumps

But dude, you WC'd ... If I had WC, I 'm sure my card wouldn't hit the wall its hit right now ..

Just thinking,,, later on , a WC kit would cost me as much as an another 6950 TF3!
so cfx 6950TF3 > single 6950 WC for me Some people just don't have the cash ! Seeing as I just bought the 6950 among other stuff !

SO ... do you game on two monitors ? cause that could be arranged!! NFS s2 must be brilliant!
Our mobo's suck !! You still have an 890gx, I'm stuck with a pathetic 785G , alteast I have good phases on this board ( 8+1)
Wish I had another on the ram ..

Hmm , what's your MAX vram w/o degraded performance ? I've managed 1.55GHz and haven't even tried for higher , can post back on the max mem I've pulled off my vram chips , which at supposed to run at 1250GHz as per spec.. But Rising someone .. said that the TF3's have 1600MHz vram on em , and I'm bound by my addiction to overvolt the vram and push it beyond spec

Honest to god, 1.55GHz was stable and I haven't even tried 1.56 , I'm that lazy *cough* swamped !

For AMD 6xxx users, i did this for C2.
Tessellation has been changed in CCC, not radpro because the tess looks very odd!
x2

x4

x6

x8

No visual loss. Also with x2, the fps was higher by about 8 on average. With tess on x8 compared to the stock crysis 2 tess, i had an average increase of around 30fps.

If you do the tess control via radeonpro, this happens.....
