So I was able to afford a 2GB 6950, and went out to Frys last night to pick one up, as I didn't want to wait on Newegg; plus Frys had it at the same price with the same rebate.
This is the Card that I bought...
I get home, and manage to get this thing installed into my little Storm Scout; installed the Catalyst 11.7 drivers... and what do I find when I pull up GPUz and MSI Afterburner?
OMG.. has this card been PRE-Flashed to a 6970.. New, Sealed, in the Box.. out of the Factory?
How can I tell whether the Shaders are unlocked, and can anyone confirm whether the BIOS version listed on GPUz is a flashed BIOS, or the factory BIOS? If its the Factory BIOS then is it possible this card was shipped with 6970 settings on the core and Ram, but still has the shaders of a 6950?
I need to confirm whether this thing has already been Flashed, as it is possible that Frys may have resealed a returned product and sold it "as new" and, yea it would be nice to know if thats what they did... if so, I might raise a fuss with them over it...
Not that I don't mind getting a 6970 in sheeps clothing out of a 6950 box; but if it WAS used and flashed by someone who then returned it to the store; who knows what reasons they may have had to return it...
Or, I just got lucky and this thing came configured as a 6970 out of the factory... and woo hoo, lucky me... hasn't been the first time thats happened to me.
Bought a vanilla eVGA GTX275 a few years ago, and out of the box, factory sealed, the card came pre-clocked to eVGA "Super Overclocked" version of the same card and ran rock solid even after overclocking it further
... and still runs rock solid!
I am wondering, if the same thing just happened to me again! LOL
Also, is it normal for this thing to run about 10 degrees hotter, then my 5850?
