That's what I would do. I may even do it in their facebook page too if they made me. 80c is not unusual for a stock 6970 (even 90c), but it should never go over 100c, and none of my shaders are going over 100c.
I had thought MSI was a better company. Don't go taking it apart. You'd be better off to run it as hot as you can until it dies and then send it into MSI. It's pretty easy to block the airflow on the card and force it to die. I'd email them first though with your screen shots and see what they say. I may even email AMD and see what they say the safe temps are for those shaders, and then send that with your email to MSI.

My stock 6970 never goes above 65C.

I can also reseat the stock cooler but I don't even want to do that as MSI sent it back "repaired" today and I do not think I should have to.

The twin turbo will make a big difference. At stock my 6990 ran up to 87 degrees at load. with the cooler on it doesn't get above 55!

Hey guys. My 6970 used to be perfectly stable, now display drivers crash all the time in d3 al well as artifacting. I raised the volts from 1.218 to 1.225 and it still happens. Any clue why?

Perhaps a recent driver update?

Hmmm, I don't think degradation would be an issue at them volts.

Quite strange.

I deidn't think so either. Never goes over 60C. I'm trying 1.23 and see what that does.

I have a reference HD6970 and a reference HD6950. The 6970 is in the top slot, and runs at 76c after a half hour of Furmark, and also running Intel Burn Test, with all the case fans turned up and Afterburner increasing the video card fan speeds at lower temps (modified temp/rpm ramp) and with a 26c ambient. The bottom 6950 runs at 69c.

When playing games the temps are lower.

Is it under warranty? If so, instead of messing with the voltage I would talk to the manufacturer about it. If you're running it stock it shouldn't be artifacting.

If anyone is interested I just updated my driver to 12.6 Beta, and Skyrim is once again flickering badly when you pull up the map. Going back to 12.2.
