I want to add a HDTV to my computer (I have a blu-ray player and want to make the PC a HTPC as well as a gaming PC).

Here is a dupe of an email I sent to Sapphire support:

"Hello

I have owned a HD6950 and a HD6970 for a little more than a year and have been loving them so far.

Now I would like to connect an HDTV.

Currently I have 2 monitors:

1: Samsung 27" 120Hz 3D monitor that must use the DVI-I dual-link port.

2: ASUS 27" LCD that is currently using the DVI-D port.

3: HDMI TV

I know that the HDMI port and the DVI-D port seem to share a clock or something, and I can only use the TV if my second monitor is shut off.

I would like to be able to use all three without shutting anything off. I have two choices.

1: I can get a mini DP to HDMI adapter cable for my TV. Can you please tell me if DRM and HD audio will work over the mini display port output for blu-rays? If I'm not using eyefinity, but just a 3-display desktop, would I still need an active adapter?

2: I could use a mini DP to DVI adapter for my ASUS monitor, but then can I use the HDMI to my TV without any issues? I would still be using the DVI-I Dual-link output to my 120Hz Samsung monitor.

The card I have is the 2GB HD6970 reference card with HDMI, DVI-D, Dual Link DVI-I and 2 x Mini DP."

They replied telling me to use an active DP to HDMI or DVI, but they didn't answer my questions.

Can anyone tell me if DP will provide audio, and if blu-ray DRM will function properly over display port? If so, then I will purchase an active DP to HDMI adapter.

Can anyone tell me, if I remove the ASUS monitor from the DVI-D connector and use an active DP to DVI cable on it, will my HDTV work over the HDMI port then? I would assume it would, but you know what they say about assuming....

Basically, I need to know if it would be better to use a DP adapter on my HDTV, or on the ASUS DVI monitor. I need the HD blu-ray audio to work.

Does your TV have a 3.5mm audio-in line? Very often those lines will share/work with HDMI video input.

I'm not entirely sure if sound would still travel through DP with an adapter to HDMI.

I have a Diamond 6950 unlocked into a 6970. It has a dual fan HSF, however, one of the fans has become noisy. i have cleaned the fan and even dissasembled it and lubed it, and yet, it still seems to make a grinding noise.

Example pic of the card:

I was looking at the card the other day and it sits directly under the currently unused 120/140 mm fan grates on my Corsair R300 chassis. I am thinking of removing the fan/shroud from the card (bare heatsink only) and running two 120/140 mm fans on the case side which is about 3-4 inches from the card.

Any thoughts?

I'm having problems with streaming with my set up. Regardless of the settings I use when I preview or start the stream my GPU usage will jump to 60%-80% and cant break 10-15 fps on my stream. I posted on their forums and no one could figure out what the problem was. I've tried 4 different drivers and still cant do anything. Any suggestions?

I have picked up a MiniDP to DVI-D active adapter, and I am using it for my second LCD monitor. This has removed a monitor from the DVI-D port I was using that shares a clock with the HDMI port. I have now plugged my HDTV into the HDMI port using a 25' HDMI cable, and it's working freaking awesome. Everything works. I have extended my desktop to my HDTV, and I just move my WinDVD window to the TV and make it full screen. I have to change my sound device manually to go over the HDMI cable, but once done I'm watching Blu-rays full screen, 1080p with Dolby HD or HD Master Audio going through my receiver to my 5.1 surround speakers. I'm pretty happy with the results. Even my RAT9 wireless mouse will work from my couch, and I bought a cheap $14 wireless keyboard I only plug in when I'm using the computer for watching video on my TV.

It works so well I'm thinking about selling my PS3. I never play games on it anymore, and it has DRM issues when I stream ripped movies from my NAS (some movies I bought and ripped to my NAS activate something in the PS3 that will cause it to cut the audio and put a message in the screen saying I have no right to be viewing this media in this format).

So, needless to say, I won't be purchasing a PS4, and Sony can get stuffed.

Where are you streaming from? A NAS? Over the 'net? If it's over the 'net, I would have a good look at your router.

hi, im plan to change out the stock cooler on my 2 years old 6970 for an arctic accelero xtreme plus 3, if anyone have this or the previous version of the cooler, can you give me some info, possible pitfalls of the change, and a way of mounting the ram+vrm heatsink with the possibility to remove them later on maybe for a waterblock, and how much the card sags under the weight of the cooler. im tired of the cooking card it runs around 80 celsius under load, yes the heatsink is clean 8bar compressed air does the job fine regularly, i dont want to brick this expensive card if possible

My tip: DO NOT use the bundled Arctic glue to attach the vram and vreg heatsinks. It's absolutely horrible: sinks not sticking properly and falling off, takes hours to dry etc.. Purchase some thermal tape and use it instead. The tape will also be easier to remove if needed.

it states needs aprox 10-hours to cure, but i would want to remove it later, so i will take your advice and use a thermal tape, any suggestion? and most importantly thickness of the tape?

Do thermal tapes have different thicknesses? I originally used the glue. When some stuff fell off I just got some random tape. Seems to be Akasa.

Glues are horrible, lol. I hate buying a used card and find that they had used glue.

What I do with Akasa thermal tape is after sticking it on, run a hair dryer over the heatsinks and get them quite warm. Then I find a way to apply light pressure without hurting the card for 15 minutes to cool down all the way. Whenever I do this, the heatsinks doesn't fall off on me.
