Running through threads w/ a bit of a buzz on trying to figure out how to increase my voltage on this sucker. Tried editing some files in afterburner, but to no avail. GPU-Z is reading 1.175V max.

Going to drink more and 'attempt' to research further. Here are some quick snapshpts of the gpu in my case from a ****ty sidekick phone.

This will save you some searching... one more thing don't mod to a 6970 bios. Use the unlock shader mod, it'll allow you to use original bios and ram timing . Some people have reported artifacts and damage video cards on other forums. Use MSIAfterburnerVoltunlock.exe to increase default voltage from 1.3 to whateva you like.

i haven't put it all together but this should help guide you.
afterburner 6 beta:you're going to need this to unlock voltage control.

6950 shader unlocker: you need an unlocked 6950 bios, not a 6950 with a 6970 bios flashed onto it, in order to use the AB 6 beta without editing the config.

according to Krlll and Unwinderyou can use a 6970 bios on a 6950 by editing your config file and entering that line.

and if you're going to go through all the trouble to get volt control, you're probably looking for the highest benches possible. in that case, download theCatalyst 11.1 beta

if you still need help after you've got all that stuff gimme a holler.
also, don't post images on OCN when you've been

i don't understand why you would want to keep the stock bios unless you were planning on leaving the ram at stock speeds, anything over 1375 would make it a moot point.

also, good post

*edit: apparently people are starting to notice cards that are running 6970 bios' are starting to tank after a couple weeks, while ppl w/ modded 6950 bios' are still running strong, even w/ core and shader OC.

maybe it's time you all reflashed and modded your bios?

Hey, Appreciate linking the pics and the advice.

Strangely, the first time i tried installing MSI AB beta 6 i was getting an OS compatibility error... re downloaded the file and it installed smoothly and I'm up and playing with the volts now.

As for the rumors/stories of artifacts and cards smoking out with increased memory speeds... how true is this? My memory on this card seems to be the most bomber part of it. Running stable at 910/1450 now. Though these rumors do give me cause for concern.

It's not a rumor. A small percentage of 6950, flash bios to 6970, owner had reported permanent damage on their card. That's why a lot of people are doing the unlock shader mod.

My VisionTek memory crap out at 1400. Anything above that will cause Crysis to crash. I ended up with a stable overclock of 960/1400 @1.3v

i suggest modding your 6950 bios instead of flashing w/ a 6970 just in case. i personally didn't have a problem for the week n change i had mine flashed to 6970, and now i have a modded 6950 running smoothly @ 970/1450 1.3v, it's definitely worth the effort.

Right, but my question is more of could it be user error, or under-ventilated cases or something of the sort?

On a side note. Does anyone else notice the high-pitch frequency of the fan when it spins up?

Also, though since I haven an open case which sits right next to me... I smell a distinct electrical burn-in type smell... I'm thinking this is more just from the GPU being brand new and me running it hard w/ kombustor. Keeping an eye on temps and stability, both which seem to look good right now. - Anyone else notice that smell?

I don't think it's a user error. Every card have dual bios and the process is not complicated. "It's so easy even a cave man can do it", lol. As for under ventilated case... I highly doubt it. The 6950 is a similar card to a 6970 but it's not the same. Flashing it to a 6970 was never guaranteed to be 100% safe.

I really don't want to RMA my card, so can someone link me to a shader unlocked 6950 BIOS? I'd rather keep the 6950 clocks until MSI AB works correctly.
